The New Generation of Divergence

Chapter one

Carenna POV

I look at my clock and it is seven thirty. 

I rush out of bed and grab some clothes and but them on. I chose a black tank top and some black jeans with black converse. 

You might be wondering, why all the black?

Well our city is split up in five factions. Each faction values a certain thing. Amity value peace. They wear red and yellow. My mom said to always stay away from them. The bread that they eat has peace serum in it, which is what makes them so peaceful. The Erudite value intelligence. They wear at least one article of clothing that is navy blue. They believe that the blue helps your mind or something. My dad, Will, always talks about how snobby some Erudite are. He used to be in Erudite then he transferred to Dauntless the faction we are in now. My mom, Christina, was a transfer too. She came from Candor. Candor values honesty. They always tell the truth, especially if you don't want them too.  They always say what their thinking. They wear black and white to symbolize how everything should be fair. My best friend Katelyn says I'm a lot like them. Always saying what I think. But I only say what I think around her. Her mom was a transfer too. Well actually her mom and my mom where best friends. They had a little group of friends. It was my mom, her mom, my dad, and some guy named Al. I never knew Al neither did Katelyn. He died before dauntless training was over. Katelyn's mom was a transfer from Abnegation. They believe in selflessness and forgetting your self. They wear gray. That leaves one faction; Dauntless. We believe in bravery. We wear all black. Most people think we are crazy. Well we kind of are.

I walk into the dining room and grab my bag and a muffin. I walk out and lock the apartment door. We are apartment 405. I walk across the hall and knock on Katelyn's door. She lives in apartment 406. She walks out with her bag and locks her door. We start walking to school. I look at her outfit. She wears a black shirt, black jeans, and black converse. It's a lot like what I'm wearing. Wow, I'm too much like my mom.  

''Did your mom ever tell you about Al?" I ask her.

"Yeah wasn't he the guy who jumped off the chasm?" she asks.

"Yeah" I say. 

"Do you ever feel like your the new one of your parents?"

"Well I hope I am!" she says. "Both of my parents got ranked first in Dauntless training"

"I'm scared for Dauntless training" I say. I would only say that to her or I would probably get made fun of.

"I can't wait to see the transfers!" she says. "I really hope one is from Erudite! Then I could be ranked above them and watch them cry!". 

Katelyn's not really mean like this she just has a problem with  certain Erudites. Two to be exact. One is her cousin, son of Caleb Prior. At school they pretend that they aren't cousins. No one knows that they are cousins because they look nothing a like. She has dark brown hair with bright green eyes, where as, Gabe (her cousin) has blonde hair and grey eyes. The other Erudite she hates is Maila. She has brown hair and dark eyes. I personal like her and think she is nice, but Katelyn doesn't. 

"I will laugh if your cousin transfers, and is ranked above you" I say. "Or better yet, Maila!"

"I really hope they don't transfer" she says. "Both of them drive me crazy!"

"Well it's a good thing we aren't in class with one of them, oh wait, we have History with both of them!" I say half in a laugh.

"Well at least we have better people in are first class, all dauntless born and no Erudite snobs!" she says.

We finally get to school and walk into are first class.
