Chapter 6

CARENNA POV

I wake to the sound of someone getting out of their bed. I roll over to see Gabe getting up. I look at the clock. It reads 6:15am. Why is he up so early?

He takes off the shirt he wore to bed. He's facing the other way so he can't see that I'm awake. He quickly puts on a new shirt. That smart little Erudite.

I laugh I little in my mind. He gets up in the middle of the night (well early morning) so he can change and no one will see him.

I roll back over and wait for a while before I "wake up". I look over at him and he's tying his shoes on. Facing the other way. Since he's not facing that way I change my shirt. I already had a bra on and I was wearing the shorts I would wear today. Something my mom taught me to always do, just in case. I finish putting on my shirt when Gabe looks my way. I smile and put on my converse. Then I walk out of the room, knowing he would follow me. 

He catches up with me. "Hey" he says.

"Good morning" I say back. I'm not really a morning person but he makes me smile. Wait what? He doesn't make me smile. No Carenna. No liking him.

"We have about two hours till we have too get to training" I say. "Do you want to walk around dauntless with me?"

"Sure" he says.

"So" I say.

"So" he says.

"Why did you transfer to dauntless?" I ask. It may be a personal question but I feel like asking him that.

"Lots of reasons" he says. "Mostly because in Erudite all they look for is perfection. And here, you're free"

"Well after training" I add.

"Well yeah" he says. "That will be easy"

"Really" I say. "I didn't pin you for a snobby Erudite"

"I'm not" he says. "I'm just more athletic then most Erudites..."

"Well I don't believe you" I say.

"Oh really?" he says. "I bet you I'm stronger than you"

"Then prove it. Let me see you're abs" I blurted out. "If you're Dauntless enough"

"No way" he says. His face goes red. I laugh.

"What?" he asks.

"You're just shy" I say. "Like an Abnegation"

He stops. "Like a what?" he seems annoyed.

I smile. "Like an Abnegation" then I run with him chasing after me.

He finally catches up to me and lifts me up and throws me over his shoulder. Then he starts to run.

"GABE PUT ME DOWN!" I scream.

"Nope" he says popping the p. He laughs as he runs down stairs. He finally puts me down and I see where we are. We are right by the chasm.

"Well you carried me so I guess you are a little strong" I say. We both laugh. 

After we stop laughing I look at him. He looks back at me. I know I shouldn't like him. All boys want is to sleep with you. Nothing else. Well at least the guys I dated.

"Last night" he says. "What was going on with Hunter?"

"Oh Hunter is just a jerk" I say. "I dated him last year then we broke up"
