It is the destiny of stars to collapse - Neil deGrasse Tyson

(prologue)

Yeonjun just didn't want to sleep that night.

He was all cooped up in his bed with his blanket pulled up to his chest. The lights were dimmed to leave the young star to rest a while in the pure bliss of darkness. Yeonjun was eager to go to bed, but he just can't get himself to close his eyes and make an effort to float in his dreamland.

His dreamland would rather appear in front of his eyes the next morning.

When he opens his eyes, he observes the ceiling glow bright with fluorescent star stickers customized for Yeonjun who never had time to observe the starry night after debut. His life was much like lampblack absorbing the sorrows of the world while he tries to figure out a meaning of his existence.

But of course, Yeonjun is well aware that he needs both the wispy, incandescent night sky as well as lampblack in his professional life.

He's heard Sohee gleam at the star-filled ceiling everytime she opens her eyes after hitting the bed, wowing at how pretty they look-glistening under the shelter she lived across the town years ago.

One day, a thought whisked Yeonjun's mind as he pounced upon the bed next to her.

"Hey ,what happens if you paint over the ceiling ?", he asked cooly, slipping his arm underneath his head on the pillow.

"No. You can't paint over the ceiling , it just stays like that" ,Sohee replies confidently.

"Even if you move out ? Don't you think the next visitor might get it painted ?", Yeonjun beams at Sohee on the bed-observing her pastel toned hair clip adorning the side of her head.

" Still. I don't think anyone can hate on stars, they might let it be and so on..".

Yeonjun agrees with the fact that he can never hate on stars. Even though there are about millions of them in the sky and his fingers are not enough to count them.

Still, Yeonjun was happy about meeting Kang Sohee the next day.

He just couldn't seem to calm his thoughts down before he loses himself to another work schedule.

They rather end up as his worst nightmares and he wakes up on the cold hard floor of his room with his head spinning two times the speed of Venus or the name of the planet he doesn't recall.

But Yeonjun remembers clearly. He was debuting as an idol in a week. The Namsan Seoul tower was where he would depart from his friend for the last time.

The night he left Sohee and she had asked him.

" You're a star now, Yeonjun. you should stay far away from me..", Sohee says observing the misty evening at the hill station.

"Sohee , I..have something to tell you".

Sohee sighs. Patience was natural for her. Especially with friends.

"I know Yeonjun, we both have a lot of things to tell each other..."

".. but promise me , That you'll meet me only when you finish counting all the stars in the sky".

Yeonjun doesn't seem to get enough of stars lately, because every time he looks at them, he only remembers her.

She'd somehow always sing him to sleep through their memories. But it is the kind of sleep he wishes would transport him to the morning ahead, where he'd be seeing her after years of being apart. On the contrary, his heart doesn't seem to fall asleep at ease.
