The Prologue is the first chapter of Mo Dao Zu Shi.
Synopsis:
The prologue opens with cultivators across the country gossiping about the First Siege of the Burial Mounds led by the Four Great Clans – the Yunmeng Jiang, Lanling Jin, Gusu Lan, and Qinghe Nie. In the end, the dreaded Yiling Patriarch, Wei Wuxian, died from the backlash of his own Demonic Cultivation.
They then discuss how Wei Wuxian betrayed the Yunmeng Jiang Clan that adopted him. Jiang Cheng, Wei Wuxian's shidi, ultimately devised the plan to strike him down. The cultivators conclude the discussion by proclaiming that Wei Wuxian's fate is proof that one should not deviate from the preset cultivation path.
The prologue ends with an overview of the cultivation world's attempts to summon Wei Wuxian's soul at the Burial Mounds, all to no avail. Thirteen years pass without Wei Wuxian's return, leading the people to believe that he truly is gone for good.
The narrative concludes: "Nobody would remain at the top for all of eternity — legends are only legends."
