Synopsis:
Jin Ling stands and attempts to reinsert himself into the wall of the Stone Castle. Wei Wuxian pulls him out a second time, only to shiver at the sound of Jin Ling's dog barking.
They leave to investigate, and Lan Wangji discovers that the dog has torn off a scrap of clothing, implying that someone was watching them. Lan Wangji agrees to go after the person while Wei Wuxian takes Jin Ling down to Qinghe to recover. They agree to meet near where they met the charlatan. To spare Wei Wuxian's terror, Lan Wangji chases the dog away first.
Wei Wuxian uses Lan Wangji's money to buy a room and new clothes for Jin Ling. However, as he undresses the boy, he notices a Curse Mark on his leg, implying that he has offended something of extreme malice.
Just then, Jin Ling awakens and, seeing that he is in his undergarments with the person he believes to be Mo Xuanyu, shouts that he is not a cut-sleeve. He then sprints away. Wei Wuxian follows, concerned about the Curse Mark.
As he searches the streets of Qinghe, he overhears Jiang Cheng scolding his nephew for having the temperament of a "young mistress." Suddenly, he hears the barks of Jin Ling's dog, and in his attempts to run, he dashes straight in front of Jiang Cheng.
Zidian strikes his back, knocking him to the ground, and Jiang Cheng hauls Wei Wuxian inside the nearest shop, sending the owner scampering outside. After a disciple pays the owner, Jiang Cheng orders Jin Ling to stay put with an expression that seems a combination of vengeful wrath, fathomless hatred, and raving ecstasy.
