CHAPTER SEVEN
≪ ◦ the name of the game ❖ ◦ ≫
season one episode fifteen
tw: talk of eating disorders,
summary of the chap at the end.

"𝗟𝗔𝗗𝗜𝗘𝗦, 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗪𝗘 have here is a grade-A dilemma," Coach Sylvester stated as Mercedes, Rosaline, and Kurt took a seat in front of her desk. "Mercedes, your vocal cords have had more fantastic runs than a Kenyan track team, but that look simply will not do. At first, I thought it was a subtle homage to yours truly, but now I fear it's some sort of ironic comment."

Mercedes let out a sigh, "Ms. Sylvester, I'm just not comfortable in those Cheerios skirts. They don't fit me right."

"Mercedes, you shouldn't feel embarrassed about your body," Kurt said, placing a hand on her leg.

"Embarrassed? No, no." She shook her head, "I'm worried about showing too much skin and causing a sex riot." A sly grin appeared on her face as the three of them wiggled their fingers together before running their hands over their hair.

"How do you three not have a show on Bravo?" Sue questioned. "Here's the skinny. Splits magazine, after much campaigning by one Sue Sylvester, has named me 'cheerleading coach of the last 2,000 years.'"

"In seven days, reporter Tracy Pendergrass will arrive on campus, and my new star singer will have lost 10 pounds and be in a gender-appropriate cheerleading uniform or she will be off the team."

Kurt's eyes widened, "Ten pounds? Are you serious?"

"You could lose a few too, kiddo. You got hips like a pear."

"But, coach-" Rosaline tried to stand up for her friends.

However, she was quickly shot down by her coach. "Don't give me that, Doyle. I saw you eating that batch of cookies yesterday." Rosaline was brought back to yesterday morning when she had brought leftover cookies from her aunt's café for the Glee club. She couldn't recall eating that many, but maybe she did.

"Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to put in a call to the Ohio secretary of state notifying them I will no longer be carrying photo ID. You know why?" She leaned over her desk. "People should know who I am."

Soon enough, the three cheerleaders were out of their coach's office. Rosaline said her goodbyes to Kurt and Mercedes and made her way over to her locker.

Opening it revealed pictures of her and her friends, a couple of her family, and even one of her pet bunnies, Peter and Benjamin. In the middle of the door was a mirror. Usually, Rosaline used this to reapply her lip gloss or touch up her mascara, but this time she just stared at herself. She let her fingers run up and down her neck and chin and then placed them at her waistband.

She never liked having her hair up. She always thought she looked weird, but rules were rules. She never liked wearing skirts. She thought it made her thighs stick out, but once again, rules were rules. And she never liked tight clothes. She could always see the little lumps and imperfections of her body, but again, rules were rules.
