"Richard, get up."

Richie heard his moms voice as she opened his bedroom door. It was early on a Sunday, Richie wanted to be asleep. He groaned and pulled the covers over his head.

"Richie, just come downstairs." Maggie said and slammed his door.

After dragging himself out of bed and getting his glasses on, he made his way downstairs. Maggie was sat at the kitchen table.

"You need to get dressed." She said, looking at her son.

"Why?"

"My friends coming over, and she's bringing her daughter."

"So?"

"So, you need to look nice. She's a lovely young lady and I think you two will get along."

Oh. That's what this was about. Richie did not like the sound of what was happening. A set up? If only Maggie knew.

"I'm not dating some random girl." Richie scoffed.

"Richie, you need to put yourself out there. You're 16 and you've never had a girlfriend. It's embarrassing for me when I have to tell my friends all you do is hang out with a group of boys and rot in your room."

Richie felt angry, an emotion he felt a lot when he was with his mother. He didn't know what to say, so he stormed back up the stairs. He cursed to himself and got ready.

As Richie was waiting for these people to arrive, he decided to call Eddie.

"Hey Richie, what's up?"

"You'll never believe what I have to do today."

"What?"

"My mom is setting me up with one of her friends daughters."

"Oh." Eddies heart fell to the bottom of his stomach. Why was that?

"Eds?"

"Uh- cool. That's cool."

"Not really I don't really-" Richie was about to just straight up confess that he doesn't like girls, but his mom called up to him. "Shit, gotta go eds."

He ran downstairs and saw Maggies friend and her daughter.

"Richie! This is my friend Debbie, and her daughter Olivia." Maggie said, god she sounded so fake.

Richie waved at her, and she did the same.

"Well," Maggie started, clearly annoyed that Richie wasn't taking initiative. "We're going to catch up, why don't you show Olivia to your room?"

Richie nodded and walked up to his room, Olivia followed. He sat on his bed, and Olivia sat next to him, a little closer than he would've liked.

They chatted for a bit, and then out of nowhere, she tried to kiss him. Richie pushed her away and looked clearly terrified, "The hell?"

"What?! We were set up! I thought you were flirting with me."

Richie had definitely not been flirting with her.

"Look, my mom set this up without knowing. I'm not interested." He said and scooted away from her. She was red with embarrassment.

"Don't take offense, okay? I'm into dudes." He laughed a little. The rest of the day was awkward to say the least.

Eddie was thinking about his phone call with Richie the rest of the day. Why was he so upset? Why was he so mad? And jealous? Deep down, he knew why.
