The next morning
12pmJanelle, Layla and Darnell slept over at my crib. We hadn't had a sleepover in a while, I missed this shit.
"Diamond, we never really talked about what went down, you know? Like, how you doing after all that mess?" Janelle said as we all laid on my California king sized bed
"I ain't gon lie. That dude was pure evil. Had me thinking I wasn't gon see tomorrow." I admitted, reminiscing on the past
"We ain't just here for the jokes and good times, Diamond. If you hurting, we hurting too." Layla smiled kindly
"Exactly. Ain't no pretending we ain't a family. We ride together, through it all." Darnell chimed in
"Diamond, I gotta say it straight – I feel guilty as hell. Vicious played us, fucked wit me to get to you. I ain't know who he really was." Janelle's voice cracked as she hugged me
"Janelle, it ain't your fault. He played us all. Malik handled him for good, though." I reassured her
"I'm sorry, Diamond. Sorry you had to go through all that shit. We're here for you, no matter what." Layla joined in the hug
"And don't think for a second you're weak for going through all that shit. You're the strongest, baddest bitch I know, the girl every bitch wants to be and the girl every nigga wants to have. You a queen, and queens rise above the struggles. We got you, always." Darnell preached as he also hugged us
"You ever try preaching in church?" Layla teased, causing us to laugh
"I love y'all. Y'all the realest friends I could ever ask for. Family even!" I yelled as I embraced their hugs and kind words. I really did feel much better and appreciated. I guess I was just ready to put that vicious shit behind me.
My phone started ringing, making me break all the hugs and answer it.
"You have a collect call from an inmate at Stone-gate Correctional Facility. To accept this call and speak with the inmate, please press 1. To refuse this call, please press 2. To hear the charges associated with this call, please press 3. Please note that all calls are subject to monitoring and recording." I heard as I picked up my phone and pressed 1
"Hey Jamal, I haven't spoken to you in a minute" I said, realising how much time it's been
"When you gon come and visit yo brother huh?" He asked, I could tell he was smirking from his tone
"You know what, imma be there tomorrow, I got you" I assured him
"I hope you ain't forget about a nigga" he responded
"Forget? I could never. Now you know I got big surprises waiting on you for when you get out" I told him, reminding him of how he's always in my thoughts
