(Rick⇪)

We discovered Mia, Ezra, Yasmin, Lunar, Enzo, and Liam seated in the common room, lost in their own thoughts, completely unaware of our presence.

Lucas cleared his throat, but they remained oblivious.

Lucas cleared his throat even louder, trying to get their attention.

Finally, they noticed us and rushed towards us in shock, embracing us tightly.

"I never thought we'd see you both again. Don't get me wrong," Ezra said, "I never believed the accusations that you betrayed Regardina and aided Astaroth and Marikah's wendigos in breaking through the barrier," one of them said.

"We have something important to share with all of you."

"Well, everyone is here except Asher. I'll go get him," Mia offered, preparing to leave.

"Mia, it's about Asher," I interjected, my voice filled with grace and sincerity.

Their focus shifted to Lucas and me, and I could sense the weight of their anticipation. I struggled with how to break the news about Asher, knowing it would deeply hurt them.

Seeing my hesitation, Lucas placed a comforting hand on my shoulder and proceeded to explain everything about Asher and the impending war that would occur in three weeks.

They were all left speechless and wounded, unable to utter a word or even sigh. The common room fell into silence for about five minutes before Mia finally spoke up.

"That can't be true. We've known Asher since we were children. He's been my best friend. He wouldn't do something like this to hurt us," she protested.

"Mia... I understand your pain, we all do. And..."

"Shut up, Makayla," Mia interrupted before I could finish my sentence. "You're the one responsible for all of this. You should have been the one to die, not your mother. This is all your fault." Mia's anger manifested as a gust of wind that forcefully pushed me against the wall.

Mia's words and the sudden burst of wind caught me off guard. Tears welled up in my eyes as I struggled to regain my composure. Lucas stepped forward, his face a mix of concern and anger.

"Mia, that's enough!" he shouted with authority. "We're all hurting, but that doesn't give you the right to take it out on Makayla. We need to stick together now more than ever."

Mia appeared taken aback by Lucas' outburst, momentarily replacing her anger with surprise. The rest of our friends looked at her, their expressions a blend of shock and disappointment.

"I... I'm sorry," Mia muttered, barely audible. "I didn't mean to say that, Makayla. I'm just... I'm just so angry and confused right now."

I nodded, wiping away my tears. "I understand, Mia. We're all going through a lot. But we can't let our emotions divide us. We need to prepare for the war."

"Makayla is right, Mia," Ezra chimed in. "It's not Makayla's fault that Asher betrayed us. He made his own choices. We need to get ready and be prepared for the war."

"The elders will inform everyone tomorrow. Those willing to fight will stay, while those who don't want to will be taken to a safe place," Lucas explained.

"We'll train together, and we also need to study more about the prophecy concerning Makayla's abilities," Lucas added.

"She's not the only one mentioned in the prophecy," a voice called out from a distance.

We all turned to see an elderly man approaching us.

"Hello, my name is Rick. I've been observing all of you for quite some time now and have noticed some intriguing and peculiar things about each of you."

"Wait, your name is Rick, right?" Ezra asked.

"Yes," Rick replied.

"As in Asher's older brother Rick?"

"Unfortunately, yes, I am Asher's brother."

"But that can't be," Liam exclaimed. "We held your lifeless body in our arms years ago."

"I faked my death. I had to, or else Asher would be dead," Rick explained. "But what Asher has done is wrong, and I want to help stop him and the Darkness Brothers. I possess extensive knowledge about the prophecy, and I can assist all of you if you allow me to."

Lucas stepped forward, his voice filled with determination. "If you genuinely want to help us and possess knowledge about the prophecy, then we will accept your assistance. But understand that we will be watching you closely, Rick. If we discover that you're working against us, we won't hesitate to turn against you."

Rick nodded, a solemn expression on his face. "I understand. I will do whatever it takes to make things right and stop Asher. I have a lot to make up for."

"I love my brother, and deep down, I know he's up to something." Rick said.

"But anyway. We'll rest for today, but tomorrow, as soon as the news arrives, we'll begin our training," Lucas declared before walking away.

I retreated to my room, intending to take a shower. However, as I started to remove my shirt, a sharp pain shot through my stomach. I glanced down and realized that I was bleeding from a shard of glass that had shattered when Mia unleashed her powers on me.

Gasping in agony, I quickly grabbed a towel and applied pressure to the wound. Hurriedly, I made my way to the bathroom, trying to maintain my composure despite the pain. As I cleaned and bandaged the wound, a mix of anger and sadness consumed me, thinking about Mia's actions.

After tending to my injury, I took a deep breath, determined to push the incident out of my mind. I understood that emotions were running high and tensions were strained, but we couldn't allow Mia's words or actions to distract us from our mission. We needed to stay focused on the upcoming war.
