Santa Has a Mullet - Nerf Herder

I have to admit.
I'm curious.

Why were me and Cody even in that position during the awake-o-thon?
Why was my arm around his waist? I don't remember falling asleep like that. Was it his doing? Did I do it subconsciously? Why were we so close in the first place?
I don't usually have this many questions, about anything. But I don't feel too sure of myself.

I only screamed because of the awkward situation, not because I was disgusted. I don't have anything against boys who like boys.
Why would I?

People like who they like, but I wonder what is it like to like a boy? Did that sentence even make sense?

Sitting on a stool in Cody's luxurious kitchen, I couldn't help but think about what it'd be like if me and Cody ever got together.

Kissing him isn't bad, I mean technically I've done it before. I think I liked it.

But I was dreaming of kissing someone, so maybe I enjoyed who I dreamt of kissing?
Who was it that I had been dreaming of?

I got snapped right out of the thought when Cody walked into the house with a scarf on and some shopping bags in his hands. Shivering from the icy weather.

He looked over at me with his goofy smile, shutting the door and running over to me.

"Noah! I got Christmas decorations." He smiled bigger and bigger by the second.

I smiled back, small, looking down at the bags, then looking back at him. We locked eyes.
"We're doing that?" I asked with a small laugh.

Cody nodded, opening the hat and taking out a headband with antlers on it, placing it gently on my head.
"Obviously, get into the Christmas spirit, man. Are you Jewish or something?" He joked, laughing.

I rolled my eyes, giving him a weird look for that comment. "No, but I didn't expect you to be so ecstatic about the holidays." I said, taking off the bulky headband and setting it onto the counter.

He laughed, picking up the headband and putting it back on my head. "I need your help putting up the Christmas tree, and the lights outside."

"Well, I'd love to help, but I'm reading." I held up my book to him.

He snatched the book out of my hand, grinning. "Well! You're living here rent free, so you're paying me back by helping." He said, walking off to the living room and shoved my book into a random bookshelf. He turned back to look at me, smiling. "We need to go down to the basement."

"Basement?" I said with a groan, reluctantly getting up and walking over to him. "I didn't even know you had a basement."

He chuckled, "Well, that helps me know you're not the snooping type." He elbowed my arm before grabbing my hand and pulling me towards the hallway. I followed him reluctantly, watching him open a door to a dark room. He pulled me down the stairs, looking around for a light switch at the bottom.

After a few seconds of Cody smacking his hand on the wall,, he found the light switch and flicked the light on. A singular lightbulb in the middle of the basement turning on.

It was exactly what you're thinking of. A dark basement from a horror movie, with bunches of boxes crowded around each wall of the room. Lucky me, there was no chair under the light bulb.

"Christmas..." Cody mumbled under his breath, walking over to a stack of boxes. Shaking his head and walking to a different stack.

I watched as he picked up a box, walking over to me and carefully handing it to me. "These are all glass ornaments, so be careful." He said.

I slowly nodded, and he walked away. I looked back towards the staircase for a moment, holding the heavy box. Before I knew it he was right back behind me, holding a heavy box and groaning. Rushing me back up the stairs.

...

We plugged in the tree, the glowing lights flashing on. Cody smiled big, opening the box of ornaments. "I'm so excited." He smiled from ear to ear. Digging around for the perfect first ornament. He picked his victim, which was a small paper ornament with Cody's name and the year, 1998 written beneath it.

He placed it on the very middle of the tree, putting his hands on his hips.
I walked up next to him, looking at the ornament. "Is that from when you were a kid?"

He nodded, "I made it when I was seven.." He laughed a bit. Looking at me.

He had a big smile on his face, I had smile back. "You kept it all that time?"

He nodded nervously, "My parents didn't want it; so.." He chuckled.

I nodded, placing my hand on his back with a smile. "I think it's cool that you kept it, it makes your house a home." I said.

He nodded more, laughing nervously and grabbing more ornaments out of the box.
