Travis pulled up to the cafe, his reassuring presence a comfort in the midst of our brewing emotions. "I'll be right here waiting when you're done. If anything happens, just let me know," he said, his voice steady and supportive.

"Thank you, Travis," Chloe said, her gratitude evident in her tone. I leaned in and gave him a quick kiss, my heart fluttering with a mix of nerves and appreciation for his unwavering support.

As we entered the cafe, the soft murmur of conversations and clinking of coffee cups enveloped us, a gentle backdrop to the anticipatory tension that we carried. Chloe and I sat down, our hands tightly interlocked, a physical anchor in the sea of emotions we were experiencng.

I offered Chloe a soft smile, trying to convey my support and love through my gaze. "No matter what happens today, I'm here, okay? This changes nothing between us," I reassured her.

Chloe nodded, her nerves apparent in her eyes. "I know. I... I just have so many questions," she whispered.

At that moment, the bell above the cafe door tinkled as a couple entered. Their eyes scanned the room, finally resting on Chloe. The connection was almost tangible, an electric current that seemed to draw them together.

The couple, Hannah and Matt, Chloe's biological parents, walked towards us. The air was thick with a tapestry of emotions - curiosity, apprehension, and a sense of something profound about to unfold.

Hannah spoke first, her voice a soft, hesitant whisper, "Chloe?"
The simplicity of her saying Chloe's name was like a key turning in a long-locked door. A connection that had been lost, now stood on the precipice of being rediscovered.

Chloe's grip on my hand tightened as we faced this pivotal moment together. In the faces of Hannah and Matt, I saw a mixture of hope and uncertainty mirroring our own. It was the beginning of a conversation years in the making, a chance to bridge a gap that time had stretched wide.

Hannah's voice broke the silence first, quivering with emotion. "Chloe...we've thought about you every day," she said, her eyes brimming with tears.

Chloe's response was barely audible, a question laden with years of wondering, "Why? Why did you give me up?"

Matt's voice was steady, yet it carried the weight of long-held sorrow. "We were just kids ourselves, Chloe. We couldn't give you the life you deserved."

As I sat beside Chloe, a pang of empathy hit me. My hand tightened around hers instinctively. I offered her a tight-lipped smile, full of unspoken support, as she glanced my way.

Hannah leaned forward, her voice earnest. "We wanted you to have every chance, Chloe. A chance we knew we couldn't provide."

Chloe's emotions were palpable, a mix of anguish and restraint. "But you could've tried!" she exclaimed. "I could've had my actual parents! I could've not spent years in a shitty orphanage where I was abused every single day."

I felt compelled to interject, my voice gentle yet firm. "Chloe, they made a difficult decision, thinking of your well-being. They couldn't have known the horrors you went through."

"They're strangers to me," Chloe said, her voice breaking into quiet sobs. "And yet, you're a part of me. I don't know how to...feel."

I squeezed her hand, offering reassurance.

Matt, who had been mostly silent, added, "Chloe, we don't expect to come into your life and assume a role we surrendered. But we're grateful for whatever place you can find for us in your heart."

In the quiet of the cafe, I could see Chloe clutching her cup of tea, its warmth a stark contrast to the chill that seemed to be creeping into her bones. It didn't seem like her biological parents noticed how uncomfortable this was for her. Matt's next words dropped like stones into the stillness.
