A/n-Attack pt.5
A/n-unedited (for now)
Bakugou POV
"Alright!" The woman clapped, getting our attention.
"Enough of that! I have some healing to do." The woman snapped her fingers, and the lights flickered ominously. The projector screen folded itself into the ceiling with an unsettling smoothness—as it had never been there at all. Before anyone could react, she strode forward and grabbed my chin, her fingers colder than metal.
"You, boy—stop wasting time feeling sorry for yourself. The princess needs you." She placed her hand over my injuries, and a golden glow came from her palms. My wounds started closing themselves and the bleeding stopped.
"All better. Now, where's the princess?" The woman's tone had shifted—no longer clinical, but urgent. She was already moving toward the door, her lab coat flaring behind her like a cape. Kirishima scrambled to block her path, arms hardening instinctively.
"Hold on—you just dumped a ton of insane shit on us, and now you're—"
"If you want her to be healed, I suggest you move. I don't have much time on my hands." Kirishima hesitated, glancing back at me.
"Move Shitty hair. Let her heal the pretty extra. I need her to say this shit herself." he moved away from the door as the lab coat woman rushed past him.
"Ah, there she is." She pushed open the doors to the OR, finding Denai lying on the table still unconscious. They hadn't moved her to a regular room yet.
"Remove these machines. They won't help her." She demanded. The doctors and nurses were skeptical of her at first, but I showed them what she did for me. They removed the tubes and wires and stepped aside.
"Now fix her like you said you would," I demanded
"You're rude. I don't know what the princess sees in you, boy!"
"Tch. Whatever! Just do your damn job!"
"I shouldn't have healed you. I should have given you a beating instead!"
"Come off it!"
"Insolent brat!"
She placed her hands on Denai, the same golden light emitting from her hands. Denai's wounds closed, and whatever poison was in her body burned away with how hot she was. She placed a hand on her head to heal that injury as well as to wake her up.
After a few minutes, Denai's eyes fluttered open. She started looking around the room at everyone before her eyes landed on me. Tears poured from her eyes, soaking whatever she was lying on.
"I'm so happy you're okay. I thought that they hurt you badly." She said through sobs.
"Dumbass, you should be worried about yourself. You almost..." My own tears started to fall. I tried hard to hold them back, but it was no use. They fell from my eyes anyway.
"I thought they had killed you. They said you weren't going to make it." I drolled on.
"Don't ever do that again! If you ever come close to dying like that again, I'll kill you myself!" I threatened.
"I'm sorry."
"Don't apologize, you damn extra."
The words came out harsher than I meant them to, but I couldn't help it. Denai's fingers twitched weakly on the hospital sheet, and before I could stop myself, I grabbed her hand like it was the only thing keeping me from drowning. Her skin was still too warm from whatever power that woman had used, but fuck if I cared.
"I've removed every ounce of poison, so you're no longer in danger." The lab coat woman said
"Thank you, but why are you here, Zhuri?" Denai asked.
"I've been watching and studying you since you were born. I saw that attack firsthand and decided to come heal you. I told your friends the truth about you." Zhuri explained.
"So they know that I'm not human? They know about-" I cut her off,
"yeah, dumbass. She told us."
"Oh." She looked relieved and sad all at once.
Denai squeezed my hand back, weak but stubborn. I could feel her pulse against my palm.
"I wanted to tell you myself," she whispered, and fuck if that didn't twist something in my chest.
"Don't worry about it. It doesn't matter anymore." She looked up at me with her tear-soaked eyes.
"You're still here. That's what matters." I growled, gripping her hand tighter. The pretty extra pushed her head into her hands and sobbed, muttering 'I'm sorry' repeatedly. It broke my heart to hear her pleading with me for forgiveness. She didn't need to give, and I didn't deserve.
"You don't need to beg for my forgiveness. I don't deserve it. I didn't actually save you anyway." She looked up from her hands as if I had just betrayed her.
"But you did! If you hadn't carried me back here, then I wouldn't have gotten help. You could've left me there to die, but you didn't! And all this time, I've been pretending like I was human. I've been fooling you! That's why I'm sorry." The last part was barely above a whisper. I wish I felt how she did, though, but the truth is...I did jack shit. She got injured and poisoned because I wasn't strong enough to keep her or myself safe during the fight. I made that big declaration of love, but couldn't even be there when it counted the most. I don't even care that she isn't human. It doesn't change how I feel.
"I wouldn't have had to carry you if I had just been strong enough! I wasn't, which is why you almost died!" I felt the tears stinging my eyes. I blinked, trying to get rid of them, but that didn't work.
"Bakugou, blaming yourself for her condition won't make you or her feel better. Just get stronger. There's nothing else you can do about it. She's alive, so you did something. Even if you feel like it wasn't good enough," Aizawa crept up behind me.
"And, Denai, we're going to talk after you fully recover. But for now, focus on getting better. Bakugou, let's go." I flinch at the mention of my name. I refused to leave now that she was awake. I had too many questions to ask, and none of them were answered. Aizawa used his scarf and dragged me out of the room.
"Let me go, damn it!" I shouted, trying to escape the capture weapon
"Bakugou, let her be! She has a lot to think about at the moment." I looked at her face through the glass of the OR door. She looks like she hasn't slept in days, even though she was in a coma for two days.
"Talk to her when she's ready."
'Damn!'
