The next morning, Taylor woke first to the sunlight pouring through the window in the large bedroom. Travis was asleep next to her, completely undisturbed by the bright light. She lay there for a minute, her head propped up on her arm, watching his chest rise and fall rhythmically.
She couldn't help but smile at the sight.
Eventually, she quietly got out of the bed, trying her best not to wake the sleeping man. She was able to do so successfully, and grabbed a hoodie to throw on over her pajamas as she started heading out of the room.
Only then did she realize her phone was missing from its usual spot on her nightstand. It was one of her worst habits: the device was practically physically attached to her.
She traced the pair's path from last night, finding remnants of their spontaneous activities - the half-empty glasses on the porch, Travis's socks on the path to the beach, and finally, her phone laying face down on one of the chairs by the pool.
Taylor quickly checked the device, seeing a few messages from her parents and Jack, but nothing particularly important. One notification did catch her eye, and she decided it was a good enough time to call her friend Abigail back.
The phone rang a couple times before the redhead picked up, her face popping up on the small screen.
"Abi!"
"Hey T! What's up?"
Abigail was in her kitchen, washing what was presumably dishes from breakfast.
"Just saying hi! What are you up to?"
"Well, I'm getting ready for work right now and I have to leave in a bit." The redhead paused, a confused look on her face. "Where are you?"Taylor was sitting with her knees hugged towards her chest. She realized then that you could see parts of the lawn and garden behind her.
"Uhm Rhode Island?" Taylor's voice turned up at the end of the phrase, as if she was unsure of her location.
"Why are you in Rhode Island?"
She could have tried to explain the pink across her cheeks as from the wind, but it was useless with her best friend. "I might be here with Travis..."
This seemed to fully grab Abigail's attention, and she grabbed her phone from the counter.
"One second."
Taylor watched as her friend left the rest of the dishes in the sink before quickly walking to her bedroom and flopping down on the bed.
"Tell me more!"
Taylor blushed, but was excited to tell her about the two of them last night.
"Well it was kind of a last minute trip. I ended up calling him after everything went down at Jack's wedding and he was able to come up for like 36 hours.""I'm really sorry I couldn't be there for you."
"It's okay Abi, you have a job you have to go to." She gave her friend a sympathetic look before continuing with the important details of her story. "Anyway, I was kind of a mess that night and he helped calm me down. He got in yesterday and we drove up to Rhode Island just the two of us."
Abigail was listening intently as Taylor got lost in her own world recounting the events of the past few days.
"I cooked us dinner and then we went down to the beach after it was dark. It was so much fun - we were just running around on the beach together and then ended up swimming in the pool."
She paused before continuing with the rest of the story.
"Annnnd then we kissed and then we..." she trailed off, leaving Abigail to finish the sentence on her own.
