The next two weeks flew by in a blur for Taylor and Travis. Travis was busy with preparing for the start of the season and Taylor was busy doing everything that Taylor did. Six shows in Mexico City to kick off her international leg of the tour, a tour movie announcement, and then returning to New York and heading straight back to the recording studio had caught up to her.

This was the exact reason why she was so excited to go visit Travis in Kansas City.

Plus, they had a few things to talk about that she wanted to talk about in person.

Although she had become used to receiving FaceTime calls from Travis, a call coming in during the middle of the afternoon caught her off guard. She excused herself from the recording room with Jack.

"Hey!"

"Hey."

"I thought you were supposed to be at practice?"

"Yeah, I'm back in the locker room. Had a mishap."

"Oh shit, what happened?"

"Nothing major, just hyperextended my knee."

"That doesn't sound like something minor."

"Well, they had to drain some blood out of it and it looks like a bone bruise. The good news is it's not as bad as they originally thought it was."

She winced at the idea. "Ouch."

"I've had a lot of injuries - It's not the worst, but I'm out of the game on thursday."

"Damn, that sucks. It's the first game of the regular season, right?" Taylor had been picking up on the team's schedule.

"Yeah. I just really wish I could be out there supporting the guys from the field."

"Look, I have to get back to recording. If I stay out here any longer Jack will get suspicious and that man cannot keep a secret if his life depends on it. I'm honestly shocked he hasn't spoiled an album yet."

"All right, you get back to it." Travis chuckled; he had heard enough about the man over the past month to know she was telling the truth.

"Feel better soon." She flashed him a sympathetic look before hanging up the phone and heading back into the room with Jack.

Unfortunately for her, the call was not quick enough to evade suspicion from the producer.

"What was that about?"

"Oh, nothing."

It was not convincing.

"Nothing, you say?"

"Yep! Nothing!"

He gave her a knowing look before returning to the music, saving Taylor from having to come up with some excuse for the call.

It was true that Jack was not great at keeping secrets, but he was also one of her closest friends and she didn't like keeping things from him. There were multiple conversations that needed to happen before she could, but she had started thinking about when to have those conversations, and for once, in a way, she actually was excited to have them.

Almost three weeks after they had seen each other last, Taylor was back in Kansas City visiting Travis. She was staying at his house, rather than a hotel or rental, and the two had gotten takeout for dinner before finding themselves in Travis's backyard.

"You do know that I usually never reach out to people like I did with you."

"So, why did you?"

Travis was reclining on the large outdoor sofa with Taylor curled up on his non-injured side. The fireplace was crackling. It had cooled down significantly since earlier in the day, and the heat of the fire was enough to keep them warm despite the sporadic gusts of wind.
