'Hello Di. May I come in?'
Shrishti was getting ready for the night when there was a knock on the door and Ishita's voice drifted through.
'Sure, come in.'
'Hi Di. What are you doing? Don't tell me you are hitting the bed this early!' Ishita commented the moment she entered the room. Although the girl had no right to comment when she herself was dressed in her nightgown. But Shrishti did not comment on it as she pulled out her nightgown for bed.
'It is not that early. Also, you must be tired and so I thought you must have gone to sleep too like our parents. What am I supposed to do wide awake?', Shrishti replied as she went to the bathroom to change.
'That's true. But never fear, because Ishita is here! I will spend the night with you and we can stay up late in the night!'
Behind the bathroom door, Shrishti rolled her eyes but did not say a word. The reason she was annoyed was because she just remembered what happened in her last life around this time. By then, Shrishti and Raghav were engaged and Ishita had come for engagement and stayed the night and just like tonight she had come into Shrishti's room to cheer her up, sad for her cousin who was forcefully engaged to the guy she did not like. But later on, after her death, Shrishti came to know that Ishita was actually happy that Shrishti had some unhappiness in her life. She was happy that not everything was perfect in Shrishti's life and she had actually come to see her in misery. Shrishti wondered if the girl would do the same thing she did in the last life. Shrishti would have to wait and see.
'Di! I am checking out your wardrobe, ok? Now that I am in college, I have to dress like a senior college girl, na?' came Ishita's voice and Shrishti smiled and shook her head. It seemed like Ishita was going to do the same thing she did last time. Right on time, she heard Ishita say, 'Eww! Di! Your dresses are so boring!'
Shrishti looked up at the ceiling and prayed for some patience before getting out of the room, dressed in her icy blue silk night suit. She saw the jealousy in Ishita's eyes as the girl looked at her and Shrishti could not believe how naïve she was in past to not recognise jealousy when it was clearly written on Ishita's face. She really was pretty dumb in her first life!
Ishita's cotton night gown looked genuinely drab and dreary when compared to Shrishti's night suit. But Shrishti did not care. Last time she cared, she was thought off as arrogant and vain and a girl who showed off her money. This time she will pretend to be more oblivious than she was in her last life and play even more dumb and not let Ishita's sob story get to her.
'Wow Di! What a nighty! I wish I had one like this!', Ishita commented as Shrishti came to the dresser and prepared her hair for the night. Shrishti of the first life and even the one before her eighteenth birthday would have jumped in right away and promise Ishita to take her shopping next day and buy one just like this for her. But this Shrishti was different. She turned around in her seat and grinned at Ishita.
'Thanks for the compliment.'
She turned around and went back to tying her hair up. Through mirror, she saw confusion on Ishita's face before the girl turned to Shrishti's wardrobe. Shrishti mentally got ready for comments on her dressing style. And she was not disappointed.
'Di! What kind of horrible dresses these are! They are so boring!' Ishita began to grab each of the dress, examine it and throw it down. Shrishti watched it through the mirror with amusement. She remembered how distraught she was in last life when Ishita had told her this. Shrishti had gotten angry at her because her clothes were of latest fashion and her Pappa had bought them for her just few days before her eighteenth birthday. He had personally taken her shopping and had gotten her a whole new trousseau, all personally selected by Shrishti.
