Shrishti walked ahead, trying to keep her head straight forward but that was difficult when all she wanted to do was to turn her head and stare at the man walking next to her. Shrishti and Raghav were heading to the bus stop near her college. They would catch a bus home. Shrishti wondered how that would be. She had never travelled on bus before. Would they sit side by side and would their shoulders touch? Just the thought had her smiling foolishly.
Shrishti reached the bus stop and she smiled at the novelty of it.
'Now where?', she asked and Raghav led her to the queue.
'Where do we buy the ticket?'
'In the bus.'
Shrishti nodded and continued to look around. There were not much people around and she looked around trying to do some people watching. Most people were checking their phones but some kept checking their watch for the time.
'What are you looking at?', Raghav asked.
She looked at him and grinned. 'Just doing some people watching. I never noticed people at the bus stands when I pass by in the car.'
He nodded. She continued to speak, 'I have travelled mostly during peak hours. The rush hour seems crazy. I am happy that my first trip in a non AC bus is at non rush hour. No crowds!'
She looked at Raghav and was surprised to see the man looking amused.
'What? Did I say something funny?'
Raghav chuckled. 'You seriously think there will be no crowd?'
'What? There will be?'
Raghav did not reply but he still looked amused.
She huffed. 'Just look around, Raghav. Look around. There are barely people there!'
Raghav remained silent. She huffed again. What an annoying guy!
Just then a bus came. She moved towards it when her arm was grabbed.
'Not ours.', Raghav said and pointed to the number and final destination name on the bus screen near the entry door. She stared at it and nodded. It was heading towards Navi Mumbai, a place they did not need to go.
'It won't go our route.', Raghav said and she nodded. The bus came to stop and people on the bus stop headed towards it. Shrishti stared with disbelief as people kept on coming towards the bus. What?
'From where did these people come?', she cried out as before her eyes a crowd formed in front of the bus door and people began to push each other to get inside. Shrishti took a step back in horror.
'They are actually pushing each other!', she cried out.
Raghav began to chuckle and she slapped his arm lightly with an annoyed expression on her face. That only increased his laughter. She sent a glare his way and he pressed his lips to stop his laughter. She huffed and decided to ignore him. The bus left and Raghav leaned closer. 'Not much crowd, right?'
She pushed him away which only made him chuckle again. Once the bus left, the stand was empty again. But Shrishti refused to be fooled. The crowd would come. She knew it! They would come when the bus came!
Soon, a bus coming towards them became visible.
'Come on.', Raghav said, sounding grave. She glanced at him to see him looking serious. She swallowed. 'Is it time?'
'You can see the bus number and final stop on the front too.', he said. 'This one goes our route.'
Shrishti took in a deep breath. Alright! It was time for her to brave the crowd. She straightened her back and her eyes narrowed with determination. Her hand tightened its grip on her bag while her shoe clad legs became ramrod straight. The bus came closer and Raghav grabbed her arm. Raghav walked ahead dragging her with him.
