'Will you stop crying?'
'I cannot.'
'Stop scolding her.'
'Daljeet, it is just a try out. She has no need to cry for it.'
'But Arpit, don't you see that she actually had her heart set out on it. Of course she will cry.'
'I would not have.'
'You are not her. Everyone is different. Now stop it.'
While Daljeet and Arpit argued, Shrishti remained crouched on the floor sobbing.
Suddenly a loud voice came, 'ENOUGH!'
All three turned their heads to see Divya glaring at them. 'Your arguing is not going to help anyone. She needs help. Lets find help. Let us find some solution to this problem.'
'But no one is lending us the cycle.', Daljeet cried out. She sounded distressed.
Divya shook her head. 'That is a problem for later. Now can we just go somewhere, relax and think with a calm mind instead of standing near the gate, shouting?'
Arpit and Daljeet fell silent at that. Divya next turned her attention to Shrishti. 'And you....', she said in a kind voice, 'Stop crying, dear. That helps no one and will only make you sick.'
Shrishti nodded and wiped her face. Divya was right. Crying would help no one including her. What was the use of crying then? She stood up and looked at her friends. 'Lets go somewhere and sit.'
'Lets go to the garden and sit on a bench there.', Arpit suggested and all agreed.
As they headed towards the garden, Arpit sighed. 'How unlucky are you that this happened to you on Veere's Birthday......' Arpit trailed off and the three of the girls turned to see Arpit looking frozen.
'What's wrong?'
Arpit looked at Daljeet, his eyes wide, his expression eager. 'How long will the try out for first years go on?'
Daljeet shook her head. 'No idea. Every cyclist will have to try out individually and cycle some one kilometre or something. Their timing would be recorded and top five from all first years would be chosen. Same goes for all the years I guess.'
'How long will that take?'
'What do I know?'
'More than an hour...?'
Daljeet frowned, thought for few seconds and shook her head. 'Let me call the Head of sports committee. He is handling the whole try out right now.'
She walked away to make a call and came back within minutes. 'An hour easily.'
'An hour? That's a tight fit. But..... I think.... We can do it.'
'Do what?'
Arpit grinned at her. 'Call the Head and put Shrishti to the last in second years' list.'
'What? Why? Why would he do that favour just for us?'
'You don't know him. He accommodates students like that. He had done it before. Many students have fear of competing and have made several requests like this before. Some ask to try out first and some last. Its nothing new.'
'Those are mainly freshers.'
Arpit hissed in annoyance. 'Atleast try na!'
Daljeet huffed. 'Fine!' She made a call and explained the situation and then cut the call. 'He said yes.'
'Good.'
'Pari! Go and freshen up. Your face looks like a mess. Then go and relax. I will get you a spare cycle.'
