Night Terror

This is based off what happened to me, the author as a child. The nightmares for me tonight a particularly bad so I'm going to try out writing them.

The home invasion was on front page of border mail. And we were in it for the house fire too, JUST PLANE LUCKY.

And yes to the international readers there is a place called albury in Australia NSW it is around 6 hours from Sydney Where home and away is based.

Based when Jaide is 8, Casey 11, Heath 20 and Brax 24. Just after Brax got custody of the little ones.

Jaide pov

*Dream* I flinch as the yelling beings it's normal. I've grown used to it, but it still scares me. I watch as Brax heads to the front window barely peering out to see what's going on.

In a flash the window smashing a long knife slicing through. My brother covers his face to avoid the sharps cutting him as the guy begins yelling.

"Your the biggest dogs in the street" the voice slurred. He's drunk.

I was as Casey darts around Brax's leg and into where the lounge room is located. We were both asleep.

As the fear begins to paralyse me I grab my teddy burying my face in it and covering my ears best I can. It doesn't help.

I begin crying as the guy starts threatening to come in and kill us. He's trying to unlock the door, now he's banging on it. I watch in fear as Brax looks at me and mouths it's ok.

The sirens ring, but it brings me no relief as the banging gets worse. I know the door isn't the best.

It flings open and I scream in terror as the big knife comes down stabb-*

I wake up to my own scream. Brax and Kyle are in my room with me, I can't move, the images are still in my head. I can hear my brothers talking but I can't say anything or move. I'm paralysed.

Shit I realise this is a night terror, it takes a bit of coaxing but I come out of it. Tears stream down my face as Kyle pulls me in for a hug.

He rocks me as Brax rubs my back, my breathing is OK surprisingly. I was expecting a panic attack.

Before we met Kyle, Brax took us for a trip to a little town called Albury we stayed there for 3 weeks. In the time, we had an attempted home invasion, our unit we were staying in set on fire and I watched the neighbour get stabbed after thinking it was about me.

I glance at Brax "albury?" I nod.

He sighs "do you know what triggered it?" I shake my head.

"Wait what's albury" Kyle asks.

I zone out and Brax explains it, the memories coming to my mind as I get stuck in a trance like state. Brax notices, he swears.

"Don't move her, she's in a trance of the memories. Heath is the only one that can get her out"

Unknowingly I begin crying again as my breathing picks up, finally Brax is back with Heath.

He kneels down, "Jay, Jay baby. Come on. We aren't there anymore, ok? Luke can't hurt you and neither can Eli" he murmurs.

My breaths gets my ragged, "shit, what was her dream about do you know?"

Brax shakes his head, "just that it was albury"

Heath grabs me from Kyle's grasp and begins rocking me, humming a song. Slowly I come out of it, "baby, was it the neighbour or Luke?" He asks.

"Luke" I mumble.

He, Brax and Kyle all share a look. Wiping my eyes I lean my head against his chest. Yawning, I rub my eyes.

It's not even daylight yet, I was so tired "yous two go. I've got her" Heath tells our brothers.

They nod and head back to bed, after dropping a kiss to my head each. Heath lays me down on my bed, walking around the other side he joins me. Leaving my side lamp on, he turns the other side off and lays down.

I lay my head on his chest, it takes a while to go back to sleep, but he begins rubbing my arm. Drawing shapes on it and I drift off.

*Dream*

I can hear yelling, I tune it out and keep playing my game. It gets louder and then I hear.

"COME OUT OR I'LL COME IN AND KILL YOU!"

"IM GONNA KILL YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!"

"YOU'LL ALL BE DEAD SOON!"

Tears come to my eyes as I begin to sob quietly. Someone was going to kill me and my brothers. I had no clue why.

Heath comes to my door knocking on it "dinner time J- Jaide what's wrong?!" He asks worried.

"The neighbour is-is gonna kill me" I yelp and burst into sobs.

He pulls me close and hugs me, "no no baby"

"But that w-what she said" I wail.

That bring Brax to my room. "The hells going on?" He asks.

I feel heath shrug, then the yelling starts "IM GONNA COME KILL YOU!"

"See!"

My brothers glance at each other, Brax goes into the other room grabbing something out. Timidly he opens the door a bit.

I look up, and watch in horror as a knife impaled him

"NOOOOO!" I scream.

*END DREAM*

"NOOO" I wake up to heath jumping and shaking me a bit.

"Jaide, Jay. Sweety it's a nightmare. Your ok. It's ok"

My breathing slows down and I look at him in tears "why won't the nightmare leave me alone" I ask.

"I don't know sweety, maybe because other than Brax your the only one who witnessed it. I had Case away in the kitchen"

I let out a sob, and bury my face in his chest. He wraps his arms around me and starts singing my favourite song.

Finally it puts me back to sleep and the next time I wake, it's daylight and It's not from a nightmare.
