"Wow, all this for me?" I scoffed as I was pulled into a small cement room where a single chair sat in the center accompanied by a long table along the wall topped with various instruments. I quickly averted my eyes, not wanting to know what exactly lay on the table, though I had a pretty good idea. "Really rolling out the red carpet."
"Only the best for the boss's daughter." Elias spoke from the door as I was shoved harshly onto the chair. There was a small, white light hanging from the ceiling, illuminating the room. My eyes squinted against the light. I had been in the cell for so long, my eyes weren't used to this bright light. Not to mention, the lighting in the tunnel's around this place were less than desirable.
I stared at Elias as my wrists were cut loose from the zip-tie before they were quickly fastened to the arms of the chair. No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't understand what drove him to join the Phoenix Society. Not only that, but how did the Order not know? I tilted my head, raking my eyes over his body. Besides the scar on his wrist, he still looked like the same Elias I knew. The one I had grown to trust.
"How long."
Elias stepped into the room. "What?"
"How. Long." I repeated, enunciating each word. I wanted to know. How long had he been with them? How long was he lying? How long was he pretending to be someone he wasn't. I finally allowed my anger to seethe through my body. My hands clenched in and out of fists as I though about what Elias had done.
Elias chuckled. He leaned in closer to me, resting his hands on the chair's armrests. "Don't pretend like you are any better than me Kya. You were with them a hell of a lot longer than I have been."
"Unlike you, I didn't have a choice." I said through gritted teeth.
"You don't really believe that do you? We all have choices Kya, you're just mad you made the wrong ones." His eyes met mine. His words sent chills down my spine as he spoke with such hatred. "And now daddy is going to kill you and all your friends, along with that brother you cherish so much."
I lost it. Elias could threaten me all he wanted. But I wasn't going to sit here and watch while he hurts the people I care about. I snapped my head forward, jamming it into his nose. I heard a crack, then a yell from Elias as he stumbled back, stunned from my sudden attack.
"You bitch." He snarled, holding his bleeding nose. He threw his fist at me, striking me square in the jaw. Stars filled my vision as the metallic taste of blood filled my mouth. In hindsight, maybe hitting him while I was strapped to a chair was not my smartest idea. Elias drew his fist back this time punching me in the stomach. I doubled over in pain, coughing as I tried to catch my breath.
"Elias!" A voice loud voice boomed from the doorway. I didn't need to look to see who it was. I shuddered as I watched his feet move into the room. Elias backed away from me immediately and I felt him tense.
"I-I..." Elias stammered. I let out a small laugh as I sensed his fear for my father. My father stopped in front of me. Out of habit, I held my breath. The less movement, the better. I heard him let out a sigh as he saw the blood dripped from my mouth. His rugged hand gripped my chin as he pulled my head up, forcing me to finally face him.
I felt my breath hitch as I looked at him. It was a strange feeling, seeing my father again. His icy blue eyes scanned over me as if he was searching for injuries. I knew better than to be fooled by his caring exterior. It meant nothing. I had so much rage and hatred for him. I wanted to make him hurt, just as he had done to me and my brother. I spit out the blood pooling in my mouth as I glared at him. Monroe let out an amused laugh. Without moving his head, he eyed Elias, who stood against the wall with his gaze forward – much like a solider awaiting his orders.
