After dinner, I went upstairs and curled up on my bed with one of my favorite books, Anna Karenina. Gone with the Wind sat on my bedside table waiting to be read next.

"Whatever our fate is or may be, we have made it and do not complain about it."

I nearly jumped at the familiar voice. Jasper was perched in my window, smiling.

"He was afraid of defiling the love which filled his soul"

I replied. His smile widened as he crossed the room and sat beside me. "Anna Karenina again?" "My favorite novel."

"Other than Gone with the Wind?" I laughed. "Other than Gone with the Wind." He rolled his eyes knowingly.

I climbed into his lap and wrapped my arms around his neck. "I love Anna and Vronsky's story," I said softly.

"It's beautiful, but tragic." Jasper nodded. "Most great love stories are."

For a moment neither of us spoke. Then his expression grew serious. "If it had to be, would you want our story to end like theirs?"

I immediately shook my head. "No." My forehead rested against his. "I don't think I'd know how to live without you after loving you." His eyes closed.

"After waiting one hundred and sixty-one years to find you," he whispered, "I don't think I could live without you either."

I smiled and kissed the tip of his nose. "I love you." "I love you more." "I love you most." His laugh was soft as he wrapped his arms around me.

The next morning, Jasper picked me up before Bella was even ready. "Ooh, you look handsome today," I teased.

"I could say the same about you." He kissed my forehead before pulling into the school parking lot.
