The Weekend

I was curled up beside Jasper in the hammock we'd hung between two trees when Edward suddenly appeared on the bed of Bella's truck.

The loud thud made me jump. "Can you at least try to act human?" I called. Bella laughed.

"I mean, we have neighbours." Jasper chuckled and pressed a kiss to my temple.

"I'm taking you to meet my family tomorrow," Edward said as he hopped down from the truck and effortlessly pulled a dent from the side panel.

"Thanks," Bella said before pausing. "Wait... with your family?" I snorted. "Yeah." "What if they don't like me?"

"So you're worried...Not because you'll be in a house full of vampires but...Because you think they won't approve of you?" Bella chuckled dryly.

"I'm glad I amuse you." Beside me, Jasper suddenly tensed. "What is it?" "Billy and Jacob." He stood and looked toward the road.

"I'll pick you up tomorrow." He cupped the back of my neck and kissed me before heading toward his Jeep.

I blew him a kiss as he drove away after Edward. Just like he'd predicted, Billy's truck pulled into the driveway a few moments later.

Billy looked less than pleased as the Cullens disappeared down the road. "Hey," Bella called. "Come to visit your truck?"

Jacob climbed out and grabbed Billy's wheelchair. "Looks good," Billy said, eyeing the repaired dent. Dad came outside and helped him up the steps.

"Got that dent fixed," Jacob added, running a hand over the truck. "Actually" Billy started, lifting a paper bag.

"We came to visit your flat-screen. First Mariners game of the season. Plus Jacob here won't stop talking about seeing Bella again." I laughed.

Jacob immediately kicked my leg. "Great, Dad. Thanks." "Just keeping it real, son." Billy lifted the bag.

"Harry Clearwater's homemade fish fry." "Now you're speaking my language," Dad said.

As they headed inside, Billy's expression grew more serious. "Any luck with that Waylon case?" Dad shook his head.

"I don't think an animal killed him." "I never thought it did." "Spread the word around the rez. Keep the kids out of the woods."

Billy glanced toward Bella and me. "Don't want anyone else getting hurt."
