Jae wished she couldn't hear anything, she wished couldn't hear the pack teeth clashing, she wished she couldn't hear Alice's grunts of pain from being hit or Paul's howl every time he went for a kill.

But what she hated the most was what she couldn't hear. It might be the fact that Seth was too far out into the mountains, but she hated that she could hear everything, and yet nothing.

Toji and Levi had taken care of many of the stray newborns who didn't land themselves into the fight so it has been pretty much inactive for Maki and Jae. But it didn't help that Maki was still uneasy knowing that she may or may not be hunted as well.

It also didn't help that it had gone radio silent for a bit, even on the pack's end. The entire Zenin family could "hear" it. Jae stood still holding her breath. She was listening for anything, any sign but was greeted with nothing, yet the silence didn't mean peace.

The house was no longer silent though the imprints could no longer sit and stare at the walls and needed to find a distraction so Emily and the other's decided the start cooking up a feast for the boys till they got back. They knew they would. They had to.

Jae could overhear the clanking of pots and pants, and the clicking of the igniter on the stove starting up a fire for what Jae could smell as an upcoming meal of Steaks and side dishes.

Toji walked over the hill that overlooked the home he eyed his daughter, he never wanted it to come to this. He got his family away to restart but here they are going backwards.

Jae got goosebumps, almost like spidey-sense. Something, or someone, was coming and they were close. Whipping her eyes around she tried to look past all the thick flora that encased the forest in front of her. She knew that little shit was here but he concealed himself pretty well for a newborn, and since vampires didn't need to breathe it's not like she could hear his breathing either.

She doesn't have much experience hunting a vampire or newborns compared to her father and grandfather, she didn't know what to expect, and neither did her siblings.

A sudden loud crash erupted from the back of the house and Emily's scream was heard. Jae ran into the house, the back door broken open, and found a young-looking vampire who seemed to be a high schooler, he looked familiar.

That's when it hit her, his missing photo was alongside those on the school cafeteria board that one day, an African-American student named Neil Anyalwechi only 16 years old, and a starting linebacker for his high school football teams.

Here he stood after missing for months, holding a struggling Emily against his chest standing over a knocked-out Maki on the ground with blood streaming from her head. Kim and Claire missing in the house.

"That girl had such a memorable scent you know?" He said nodding over to Maki's body, "You're Neil, aren't you? You were the one who attacked my sister that night." She slowly approached the larger teen who kept a grip on Emily's neck, if he tightened it he would have easily snapped her neck.

"What of it?..." He kept his guard up, backing up slightly from Jae approaching him "Victoria told me about you, she warned me about your family, especially about you.

Take one more step and her neck snaps." He demanded.

Jae shakingly put her hands up. She eyed the vampire's nails dig into Emily's neck drawing slight blood making her cry out in pain.

The blood dripping made Neil inhale deeply closing his eyes in a euphoric state, neck craning back

Perfect. She thought

She teleported behind him grabbing him, one hand gripping his nape and another grabbing Emily. With the sudden force, the distracted vampire was ripped off and sent flying into the kitchen, his back hitting the wall with such force making a significantly large hole. Emily's body was sent over the couch nearby landing on the coffee table and landing on the ground with a thud
