chapter one
" pretty when you cry "
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
(contains strong language, panic/anxiety attacks/meltdowns, ollie's dad being horrible again, and a brief vague suicidal thought like blink and you miss it, also a bit of internal ableism)

OLLIE MISSED ABOUT HALF OF HIS FIRST CLASS. He had slept in far too long, causing him to miss out on breakfast and thirty minutes of Herbology. He had even more bad luck when on his way to the greenhouse, he ran into Regulus Black.
Literally ran into.
Regulus stumbled from the sudden impact, falling on the stone floor, and Ollie dropped his bag, going to help him up. "Fuck, fuck, I'm so sorry." He rambled, reaching out to try and pull Regulus to his feet, but he shrugged Ollie off, standing up by himself.
"I'm fine. You're.. You're fine." Regulus said the last part through slightly gritted teeth, as though it physically pained him to say it.
"Are you okay? Are you sure I didn't hurt y-"
"I said I'm fine, Ollie!" Regulus snapped. "I mean..Oliver. Fuck. Just- Go. I'm fine."
Ollie remembers when his dad used to snap at him like that.
Ollie flinched slightly at the other boy's harsh tone, raising up his hands as if in surrender before going to pick up his bag. "Okay. Forget I asked." He grumbled, shoving past Regulus and making his way down to the greenhouse.
He tried to open the door as quietly as possible, slipping inside the greenhouse and sitting next to the first familiar face he saw, hopefully not being noticed by professor Sprout.
"Hey, Ollie, I think you're a little late." His friend he had sat next to, Evan Rosier, snickered quietly.
"Shut the fuck up. What'd I miss?" Ollie whispered, setting down his bag, simultaneously trying to hide his face from professor Sprout.
Evan put a hand to his heart,as if wounded. "What did I ever do to you to deserve such unkind words?" He says, giving Ollie a look of fake hurt.
"Nothing, Evan. You're wonderful. It's your friend that's put me in a bad mood today." Ollie patted Evan's shoulder, half listening to the Herbology professor. Since it was the first day, they most likely weren't actually going to do anything.
"Barty?" Evan asked curiously.
"I said friend, not boyfriend."
"Hey! We're not- ohhh, its Regulus' fault then?"
"Yes." Ollie sighed. "I...I wanna be nice to him, but its really difficult when he's such a prick all the time." He lay his head down on dirt covered table in front of him, resting his cheek on the wood. "What did I do to him, Evan?"
Evan pondered on what to say for a moment. "Look- Regulus...You two...Well, The Hufflepuff golden boy and the Slytherin prince...Are simply just destined to hate each other."
"I don't believe in destiny. Destiny is for losers." Ollie says with a pout. "You're a loser, Evan. Just for saying that."
"Shut up. I'm so cool. You suck."
