I walked halfway back before the boys were in front of me. I looked back. and Qi Ying handed Lang Ying a red coral bead. I do remember that Brother gave it to her and told her to do what she saw fit with it. I guess she's going to get along with them for a little while. The man began to dig in the ground before putting something in the ground and burying it in the dirt. That must be the poor child.
"Your Highness, what did he bury here?" Feng Xin asked. I looked at the boys. None of them seemed to understand what was going on. I just shook my head, unwilling to say anything.
"Your Highness, I went and investigated earlier and figured out what's happened. Yong'an had never been a wealthy place; their temples and shrines are few in number. It seems they also have a local rule where those who don't offer donations couldn't pray, so those who visited the Temple of the Crown Prince had all been the wealthy, and the poor suffering from disasters couldn't even enter..." Mu Qing was more concerned with something Brother asked of him.
"You two, go to Yong'an, and see what the situation is. I, will go meet the Guoshi, and ask exactly what's going on." Flower Sword said in a low voice. His face had never been this dark. Feng Xin and Mu Qing nodded, while i gave his shoulder a squeeze.
"I need to go check on some things," I told him before leaving. I know I'm not scared to do this, but I need answers. Walking past others, I made my way to the Xianle Palace. If my brother or the Guoshi knew what I was about to do, they would be uneasy about how I'm going about this.
I headed in as some men were coming out. It's easier since I don't need to steal armour or use some tricks in the cultivation I made. Now I can just leap overhead, and no one will see me. This would have been easier than sneaking around at night or hiding above the training grounds just to get a full lesson. Father and mother were so overly protective of me, especially since the day I was nearly assassinated by a random thug who tried stabbing me. I still don't know how I knocked him down to this day. If Flower Sword wasn't there, I probably would have bled to death. Mother and father should be in the study if they haven't gone to do something to do with the Yong An meetings, which I would assume are from the refugees from the dying kingdom.
I walked through the palace halls, doing all I could to avoid going to my room to see my puppy. My reason for coming here is to see my mother and father about Yong An. Hopefully, Father won't get into one of his moods and go off on me for asking when I'm not allowed to come into contact with either of them or show myself. I mean, yeah, Father does have a point in what he says, but the way he says it is annoying since he makes it sound like I'm an unexperienced, sheltered, unprotected princess who has no idea what she's doing with her life. Anyway, I found both my mother and father in the study; both were sitting together and looked exhausted. Guards were standing outside.
"Mmm, hmmm," I hummed. Mother and father both heard me.
"Close the doors now." Father called to the guards. I now realize how many white and grey hairs he had in his dark brown hair. He must have been stressed since Flower Sword and I ascended. Mother sat up, looking around the room with almost anticipation or expectancy. I heard the doors close, and I hesitated before asking.
"Mother, father, what is happening to Yong' An?" I asked, and both their faces changed to grim and upset expressions. "Why are so many refugees from Yong' An coming to Xianle?"
"..." Father shook his head, closing his eyes as mother placed a hand on his. "You are still the same, even after ascension."
"Father, please answer me. I need to know if our home is at risk."
"A-Mei," my father said as he raised his head and looked around the room to find me. "You don't have to worry about Xianle anymore; you're a god now."
I could only stare at my father. I may be a god, but this place is my home. My family is here. I will help. no matter what.
"I'll be back with Brother," I said before going to the window.
"A-Mei!" Mother called after me before I opened the window and leaped out. Yong An must be in some sort of drought; that's all I can think of with a city of refugees leaving home so dishevelled.
