Frostblaze sat near the fresh-kill pile, staring into space. She was jolted out of her thoughts when Patchheart nudged her.
"What?" she asked.
"You are needed on a border patrol," he explained.
"Who's leading it?" Frostblaze mewed, standing up.
"You are looking at him," Patchheart purred in amusement. "Come on, Goldenfeather and Sparrowshadow are waiting for you."
"I'm coming," Frostblaze mewed, padding towards the thorn barrier where the two she-cats were waiting.
"Follow me," Patchheart mewed in a more serious voice. "Tense Clans are dangerous."
They nodded in acknowledgement.
"We are heading towards the ShadowClan border," Goldenfeather informed Frostblaze.
She flicked her tail in acknowledgement as they neared the Thunderpath.
Patchheart lifted his tail to gesture for them to stop walking. "Fresh ShadowClan scent," he growled, more in surprise than hostility.
"They don't usually trespass anymore," Sparrowshadow pointed out in confusion.
Suddenly, a familiar cat brust through the bushes in front of the ThunderClan patrol.
"Clovermist?" Frostblaze mewed in bewilderment.
She took a step back when she spotted her friend's eyes. Her green eyes were paler than normal.
Patchheart began to bristle while Goldenfeather and Sparrowshadow looked uncomfortable.
"Clovermist, are you okay?" Frostblaze asked hesitantly.
Without warning, Clovermist lunged at her. Frostblaze didn't defend herself from Clovermist's attacks, only letting her injure her.
Patchheart dropped into a crouch to attack but Frostblaze stopped him with a yowl, "Don't attack! She doesn't know what she's doing!"
"But you are getting injured by the heartbeat!" Goldenfeather gasped.
"And she's an enemy warrior!" Sparrowshadow yowled fanatically.
Luckily, before Frostblaze got even more injured, a red tabby shape barrelled into Clovermist.
"Wake up!" the tom begged while pinning Clovermist down. "This is not you, wake up!"
Frostblaze reared back, stunned as Bouncelight - the red tabby tom - spoke with Clovermist.
She felt Patchheart's fur pressing against hers, his voice soft and concerned. "Are you okay?"
"Yes," her words felt dry on her tongue. But my friend is not fine.
Finally, Clovermist stopped struggling and stared at the cats around her. "What happened?" she asked in confusion.
"You trespassed and attacked Frostblaze," Goldenfeather spoke up.
"I... I'm sorry," Clovermist mewed. "Is Frostblaze okay?"
"I'll live," Frostblaze meowed, glancing at her wounds. "But, what exactly happen there? You... just attacked like..."
"I don't know," Clovermist admitted, looking away from her.
Bouncelight wrapped his tail around her comfortingly. "It's okay," he whispered. In a louder voice, he mewed, "I'm sorry for trespassing. I promise this won't happen again."
Patchheart acknowledged with a cult nod as the ShadowClan cats left.
"Frostblaze, do you want to head back and let Stagwind look at your wounds?" Sparrowshadow asked. "It can get infected."
"Okay," Frostblaze sighed. What happened just now... might only be the beginning.

Soft murmuring roused Frostblaze from her sleep. Her pelt was patched up with cobwebs that Stagwind had placed on her pelt with efficiency.
When she looked around the warriors' den, she realised she was alone. Where is every cat?
Frostblaze took a cautious step out of the den. The clearing was empty, except for a group of cats talking to each other.
They are StarClan cats! she realised. I am in StarClan!
Frostblaze stepped forward, wandering what they were talking about.
"The Clans are going to face the most dangerous battle in many moons and here we are sitting around doing nothing!" a tom hissed.
"We have done something," another cat argued. "We have sent a ThunderClan apprentice to ask that strange Clan for help."
"Do you know how dangerous it was?" the tom snarled. "An apprentice making a journey so long that no cat could have even imagine!"
"But she made it," the she-cat pointed out. "And the Clans will have a higher chance of winning."
"But-" it was cut off as Frostblaze was interrupted by a tap on her shoulder.
She whipped around, surprised to find an unknown she-cat behind her.
"Come," the golden pelted cat mewed. "I have been waiting for you."
"For me?" Frostblaze meowed in confusion.
"Yes," the she-cat's voice was soft but had the hint of authority.
When the two she-cats arrived at a spot surrounded by tall trees, the golden she-cat began to speak.
"My name is Sunstar," she introduced, dipping her head. "I called you here to tell you something."
"What is it?" Frostblaze's pelt prickled with unease.
"Be brave, Frosted Blaze, for much is there to come," Sunstar mewed with a voice that caused Frostblaze to flinch.
"Wh-" she began but Sunstar had already disappeared.
In a flash, she found herself back in the warriors' den. What does it mean? And why did Sunstar call me Frosted Blaze?
A sharp yowl shattered her thoughts and the young warrior sped out.
Gasping in shock at the sight, Frostblaze couldn't believe what she was seeing.
A familiar cat lay on the clearing, covered with blood and unmoving.
It was the cat who she knew from kithood, the cat who had brightened up her days when Hailstar couldn't.
And it was the mate of a cat she was named after.
It was Patchheart.
