Lady Therese Ignacio
Ang bilis nang araw. It's been one month since the class started.
"Tama na yan, Day! Kanina ka pa nag-aaral," she said, pulling the notebook away.
We were currently in the lobby during our vacant period.
I really need to study, mababa ang score ko sa quiz last day." I pleaded with her.
"Mababa ba ang three mistakes?
"Y-you don't understand... Kahit one mistake lang yan, it matters to me a lot."
Mistakes weren't acceptable, especially not in my mother's eyes. She always pushed me to excel academically, to pursue a future that met her standards of success. I was consumed by the drive to excel, tirelessly working to achieve top grades. I had to make up for it. I needed to be in the star section next year. I needed to make her proud. And I need to work hard kasi hindi naman ako matalino na kahit hindi mag review ay ayos lang.
"Akin na, please..." I held out my hand, asking for my notes. Yvonne sighed deeply before reluctantly returning them to me, taking a seat in front of me.
"Hindi ka ba napapagod sa kaka-aral. Ako ang nahihilo sa'yo, ante!" I heard her say. I simply shook my head. Of course, I got tired. But I had no choice. I had to study to get a high grade.
"You should study too... D-dahil mababa ang score mo kanina," I hesitated a bit, nag-dadalawang isip pa ako sa pagsabi nun, dahil baka ma offend siya. She waved her hand dismissively.
"Naku! Basta turuan mo 'ko," she raised an eyebrow, and I gave her a half-hearted smile.
I gave her a problem to solve as well, while I continued reading mine. I glanced at Yvonne from time to time, checking if she had finished a problem. She seemed to be struggling, scratching her head for a while now.
"Paano 'to?"
Her eyebrows furrowed together, and then suddenly, she dropped her head on the table.
"O-okay ka lang?" Malakas kasi ang pagkakabagsak ng ulo niya. Natatawang tumingin ito sa akin.
"Ayaw ko na. I give up! Hindi ko talaga gets... Shuta, ba't ang bobo ko?" I stiffened at what she said.
"May self-awareness. Perfect!" It was followed by more laughter.
I wasn't sure, but it seemed like they were talking about Yvonne.
