YVONNE LOCKHART
I was speechless as my best friend, Layla, dragged me to a group of people and the council members who were all looking at me and situated me beside her, holding my hand tightly.
"Layla? . . . what's going on?-" I said to her before being abruptly interrupted
"So you're the maiden that was kept hidden, Hm?" A pale faced man said, making me turn my head to look at him.
When my confused expression was met with his curious look, his eyes were immediately piqued with amusement.
"What . . . Why do you look like that?" He said, his tone immediately changing
I stayed silent as Layla pulled me behind her.
"That is none of your business." She answered and I saw her father give her a surprised look, not expecting her protective tone.
He smirked and took a step forward to us, his hands behind his back while his eyes flickered from me to Layla.
"What ever do you mean? Of course it is. After all . . . You are coming with us." He gestured to the group of people behind him, some of them greeting me with toothy smiles.
"We don't know that yet, William." Yohan reminded him.
A shiver went through my spine when I peeked around Layla to see each pale figure practically glowing under the moonlight.
"Sis, you are going to get us killed." Liam said, giving her a nudge but she didn't move an inch.
"Now, why don't you listen to your brother and tell me why she looks different from all of you" William suggested with a smile.
Before Layla was about to speak, I stopped her and stepped in front of her.
"I don't want you getting stuck in all this. This is my curse" I whispered to her and she reluctantly nodded.
"I . . . I'm cursed" From this I got a few shocked expressions from the group of people across from us, including William.
"I can see that. Though what kind of curse? I don't think I've ever seen a person like you with this kind." William asked, tilting his head in curiosity.
"I'm . . . not quite sure. The curse is mostly appearance-wise I think. My white hair." I twirled a strand of hair in my finger.
"And my blue eyes." Pointing to my irises.
He stayed silent for a moment, visibly thinking.
"I see . . . well then, now that we've addressed it, I'm sure I don't need to explain why you're being chosen for the queen." He said with a chuckle.
"W-What? Nobody told me this!" I said, looking at Layla.
"I should've specified who exactly wanted you" She replied, fiddling with her fingers in guilt.
"I guess it isn't really her fault..."
I turn my head back to William, now curious on who he was talking about and why.
"The queen wanted a new human to satiate her thirst, basically. This made her send us, the Whitestone coven, to this village which seemed to manage staying quiet among our kind."
"She laid strict requirements that the young maiden to be chosen would be no older than 18 and fairly innocent." He added with a grin.
"You seem to fit those requirements perfectly. Ah, where are my manners? What is your name?"
