YVONNE LOCKHART

I was silent as I walked with William farther and farther away from my village, the moonlight lighting my way as I felt the coven's eyes pin pointed on me.

It was saddening to realize that I may never see my closest friends faces again. I don't think I could handle not waking up to Layla's daily tea, Liam's funny jokes, and Mr. Greenwood's kind smile.

"Yvonne." William suddenly said, snapping me out of my thoughts and making me jump a bit.

I heard him chuckle and I turn my head to him.

"Are you scared?" He asked with a smile, letting his teeth peek through.

"N-no." I answered him, my voice indicating otherwise.

I was thankful he didn't question my stutter and asked me another question.

"Tell me a bit about yourself. My coven and I are curious about you, especially if you're going to be the queen's new human." He said, tilting his head to me and the rest of his coven nodded in unison.

I blinked at him before continuing to walk along the forest, the ground crunching quietly under me.

"R-Right . . . uhm, I'm 18."

A few laughs came from the group beside me, making me turn red in embarrassment.

"We figured. Go a bit deeper." One of them said.

"I honestly don't know what else . . ." I answered.

"Then you could explain your curse a bit more." Another said.

"That's something I can do." I thought, giving them a nod.

"I was born like this, for a start. A white hair and blue eyed child. The townspeople didn't really know what to do with a child with such weird features so they declared me cursed."

I heard a few interested hums from the coven and continued.

"I was given to the Greenwood family, the ones who I said good-bye to before I left with you all, and I served them since I was 13. They were basically my family."

"I apologize for having to take you away from them, Yvonne." William said, his tone apologetic.

"It's okay, you received orders from your queen and I won't blame you for that." I said reassuringly.

After a few minutes of silent walking, I decided to ask William a question this time.

"If I may ask . . . What happened to the queen's past human? if she had one before me . . . something must have happened to them for her to need another." I asked, earning a sigh from William.

"Her human killed himself." He answered bluntly, his tone stoic.

My eyes widen and I nod slightly.

"It wasn't a good idea. What a stupid human." A member of his coven said, rolling her eyes.

"Why was it a bad idea?" I ask, curious of what she meant.

"The queen doesn't treat her humans badly, does she?" Panic slipped through the words of my voice and she gave me a look.

"Of course she doesn't. The queen is fair and modest. She doesn't hand out punishments unless you put yourself in that position." Another one answered.

"Plus, that human wasted their position! If you're under the queen's personal care, you get pampered by the whole castle. Your own chambers, unlimited food, and top notch care. Who would want to throw that away?" A third added, scoffing.

"Maybe somebody who didn't want to be a blood bag." I thought intrusively, turning my head back to look forward.

"Hey, human" One of them said.

"Yes?"

"Has anybody told you how good you smell?" She said, giving a small shrug.

One of them nudged her with his elbow and she gave them a glare.

"Is she implying . . ." I thought, swallowing nervously.

"I . . . smell good?" I repeated.

"Scarlet is right, Yvonne. You smell absolutely delicious." William added, giving a nod.

His words made me speechless for a moment, not quite sure what to say to that comment.

"Thank . . . you?" I replied, his comment making me queasy.

Then, I realized something and I turn my head to Scarlet.

"Wait, when you said I smelled 'good' does that mean you would actually drink my blood?" I asked, my words a bit quicker than I expected.

"Well . . . Yes. You do smell appetizing. If you weren't her majesty's new pet I would have sunk my fangs into you by now." She replied, smiling slightly.

"She wouldn't do that. She knows the consequences." The same guy who nudged her shoulder interrupted quickly.

"Will you stop, Quinn?" She snapped at him, causing him to mumble something inaudible.

"Rest assured Yvonne, you will not be touched by any of us on the journey to her majesty's palace." William said, making my eyes go to him.

I give him a nod and continued walking.

"Does that mean the queen will be the only one to drink my blood? . .  . oh dear." A shiver went up my spine at the thought, making me clutch my neck.

"Something wrong?" William asked, looking at my hand.

"N-No! uhm . . . I just had a thought." I quickly replied, lowering my hand.

He chuckled and gave me a friendly smile.

"Don't worry about your new position, Yvonne. The queen truly doesn't push anything if she knows the other person is uncomfortable. If you're worried about the feeding part . . . I'm sure she'll take it slow." He explained, calming my nerves a bit.

"And, all you need to do is to behave around the castle, take care of your health, and be beside the queen at all times. Don't forget you're the one who will be her snack when she gets thirsty." Quinn reminded.

At his words I felt my cheeks go pink, making a thought come to my head.

"Yvonne! What was that?! No, no, you can't be thinking of that."

I quickly shook away the sudden thought and continued walking a bit faster, trying to make my face back to normal. The other vampires saw my change of pace and followed.
