As soon as I was escorted to my new chambers, I planted myself on the bed and buried my face into the softest pillow I've ever touched.
"What just happened..." I muttered to myself, dazed.
After the brief meeting with the queen, she made the coven escort me here. The room was bigger than I ever expected, definitely bigger than any of the rooms in the village. A big chandelier as the main light in the middle of the room with a bed covered in white sheets, a vanity area, and a window overlooking the courtyard.
For goodness sake, I don't even know her name and now I'm expected to attend dinner with her in a few hours, adding my pile of worries.
A part of me wished there was somebody else to take my place but on the other hand, I was still curious on why her past companion committed suicide. There was always a reason behind everything, after all.
"I need to distract myself." I got up from the bed and sighed, maybe I should explore around my room for the time being.
I looked down at my feet and took off my boots. It felt rude to prod around the room after walking in dirt after all.
Now barefoot, the carpet under me was undeniably soft, the fur tickling me as I walked to my nightstand.
I traced my finger along the smooth wood, and to my surprise it had no dust at all. The wood carvings looked old but felt brand new. A simple gas lamp was on it, turned off. I looked to my side and saw my vanity area.
I walked over to it and left the domain of the carpet, taking in my reflection in the mirror. My expression was a mix of fascination and curiosity as I averted my glance to some bottles on the table. There were two small glass bottles of perfume from what I could tell.
"Vanilla and roses..." I read off the labels, maybe I should use one of them before dinner. Would it make me seem confident? Then again, vanilla is always a safe option.
Deciding to think about it later, I walked away from my future decision and went to see myself in a body mirror nearby.
"Jesus, I look like a mess." I scanned myself up and down in the reflection, frowning.
I wonder if the queen smirked at me because I looked like a dirty towel, most likely. I need to take a shower soon and get some clean clothes.
That reminded me, there was a closet at the other side of the room, a big one in fact. Everything seemed so huge in this room with the big bed and closet, not to mention the huge space provided almost made me feel claustrophobic. I walked to the other side of the room and opened the closet, ready for what was waiting inside.
To my surprise, there wasn't hundreds of hangers with clothes or dresses. Instead, there was a simple white dress waiting inside. I reached my hand and held the hanger, taking it out of the cabinet.
Did the queen have this prepared for me? How did she know my dress size?
I walked back over to the body mirror and held the dress in front of me. My first question was solved. She did have this prepared for me after all. It looked like it would fit well on me, and the dress itself was beautiful.
Now, the second question lingered. During the small journey here, did one of the coven members measure me while I was sleeping and skipped to the castle? I didn't notice anyone that was missing though. Maybe the coven spied before invading the village in the first place? Did the queen know my parents?
I was getting too caught up in my thoughts at this point when I heard the clock above the door chime. It was already 8 o'clock. I needed to get bathed by now, the dinner would be in two hours.
