It was a yearly tradition for your family to have a huge round of backyard cricket the day after Christmas, better known as boxing day. The boxing day test played on every TV available while everyone switched between jumping in and out of the pool and the large round of slightly competitive mostly fun backyard cricket.

This was yours and Taylor's first Christmas in Australia, mainly because Decembers were often jam packed with many events for the two of you so it became hard to find the time for travel. This year you set off just two days after her birthday, with her family joining for new years day.

You and Taylor woke up the morning of boxing day, still in a food coma from the Christmas feast from the night before. The two of you laid in each others embrace not wanting to move yet.

"What even is boxing day?" Taylor asked

"Well if I'm being completely honest, I have no idea," you explained with a laugh.

Taylor laughed with you, "and you call yourself Australian," she rolled her eyes

"Hey!" you hit her arm playfully, she giggled and placed a kiss on your cheek. "I've heard many stories about it though. I used to be told it was because you throw away all the Christmas boxes, or you box up everything from Christmas day. But I'm pretty sure in Australia it's just an extension of Christmas and another public holiday." you explained shrugging "I'm sure I'll figure it out one day."

"Well, what does your family do for Boxing day?" she asked

"The whole family comes over, but before they all get here, we usually make ham and eggs for breakfast because of the immense amount of ham leftover. I'm almost sure you'll be sick of ham by the time we're flying back home," you laughed making taylor also laugh. "But once everyone arrives the kids usually set up a cricket match, and slowly everyone starts joining them. Until it's too hot of course, then the pool gets the most use it's had all year as everyone jumps in to cool off. Lunch consists of leftovers and additional food from the barbecue, usually sausages. Then into the night we all go back to the cricket. All day, the test match will be playing too and all the men in the family will start yelling at the TV, so don't be startled."

"How could you possibly think of more food right now?" she asked, causing you to laugh again.

"Is that all you got from that?" you chuckled at Taylor's focus on the food aspect of the day.

"Yes! I don't even know if I can get out of this bed right now! I'm still full from yesterday" You both shared a laugh, and Taylor nestled closer to you.

"Come on baby, let's get the day started," you said, gently pulling yourself away from the warmth of the bed. "We don't want them coming to get us out of bed with a bucket of water," you added, winking at Taylor. She chuckled thinking you were kidding... little did she know it could possible happen.

The two of you made your way down stairs still wearing the Christmas pyjamas your mum had made everyone wear.

"Y/N, I've never played cricket," she admitted as you walked down the stairs.

"That's okay, I will teach you," you assured taking her hand and leading her to the kitchen where the action had already begun.

Your mum, with an apron adorned with reindeer, waved you both over. "Morning, lovebirds! Ready for your Boxing Day initiation, Taylor?" she teased with a warm smile.

Taylor laughed nervously, still adjusting to the idea of a summer Christmas, let alone the vibrant traditions that accompanied it. "I hope I don't embarrass myself too much," she admitted.

"No worries at all, Taylor. It's all about fun and laughter," your mum reassured her, handing you a spatula. "Now, help me with these eggs and ham, and have you two set the table yet?" she yelled at your two younger siblings who were on the couch playing Mario Kart on the TV.
