Chapter 5

VISIONER

Visioner looked at his new schedule for the year. Math, astronomy, history, art, self-defense, music, and healing.

He noticed that his 'teacher recommendation' class was different from Tide's: NightWing powers. 

He wondered how they knew about his visions. Moon, probably. She could pluck his secret out of his mind.

"It sounds fun," Tide offered. "Ooo, imagine if I had NightWing powers. Wouldn't that be cool?"

"Not really." Visioner shivered as he recalled his last seizure; he'd seen Anemone and Tsunami's deaths, though he hadn't been able to tell who had killed them.

It was a quick flash of the future, and then it moved on to the next. Confusing and not the best source of information.

"I hope you have fun in Aquatics," Visioner offered, knowing that Tide wasn't the best underwater communicator; his family had been banished from Queen Coral's palace and had lived at the sandy shore near the rainforest, far away from SeaWing territory.

"We're almost late!" Tide exclaimed after the three loud bongs echoed their cave. "Come on!"

Visioner smiled at his enthusiastic clawmate and followed him out of the cave.

FIREFLY

Firefly winced as she gingerly rolled her shoulder. Jasmin had pushed everyone's limits even though it was only the first day of self-defense.

"What's next?" She muttered. She realized that her 'teacher recommendations' class was NightWing powers.

Oh, I didn't realize I counted as a NightWing, She thought sarcastically. The NightWings had bullied and teased and excluded her from their fun little 'NightWing bonding times'.

Not that she was jealous or anything. She had a lot of fun in the RainWing village with her mother and father, thank you very much. 

NightWing powers...Cave to the right...There!

She smiled and waved as she saw Moon in the cave. 

"Hi, Firefly," The NightWing greeted. "Come and sit at one of those seats."

There was a small circle of smooth stone seats in the center of the classroom. Firefly realized that she wasn't the first to come. A NightWing dragonet was seated at one of the seats. She had dark gray scales that had a hint of blue and big silver teardrop-like scales at the corner of her dark blue eyes.

"Hello," Firefly said.

"Hi!" The NightWing beamed. "I'm Truthseeker! You're Firefly, right? Heir of the RainWing and NightWing throne!"

"Uh...yeah." Firefly blinked. "Nice to meet you. I think you're in my winglet."

"I am," Truthseeker agreed. "I think I saw you in my classes! I couldn't find my sleeping cave so I slept here."

"I can show you today," Firefly offered. "I'm in the third cave."

"So am I!" Truthseeker exclaimed after checking her welcome scroll. "Hi, clawmate!"

Firefly was about to speak again when the other students started to arrive.
