My first day of work after a week of vacation is done.

I go home, eager to see what Opal and Emi did this time.

My time with Daniel in the vacation was great, and I hope when the family comes over it will be like that again.

Parking my car, I go to the green copper door.

As I head in, going to the living room to get my welcome and afternoon coffee, like usual.

But Opal and Emi don't show up.

This is abnormal, maybe they are in the maid's quarters?

As I want to go there, I hear loud noises from the ceiling. The vents.

I hear a muffled voice:

"Hey, get over here!"

That was Emi, I heard it clearly!

I head to the kitchen to see Opal cleaning the counter while watching the ventilation hatch on the ceiling.

"Oh,master! Welcome home! Sorry, Emi is..."

"What is the matter, Opal?"

She looks nervous to say something.

"There... There are some rats in the vents. Emi is in the vents trying to catch them."

"What? Rodents in the vents? So those were the sounds I heard in the ceiling when I arrived home!"

"Yes, sorry master, Emi is dealing with the problem as we speak."

Suddenly there are loud metal sounds in the ceiling again, and then we are both shocked by Emi falling through the hatch on the floor. She is holding a rat in her hand, its squirming to break free.

"Ha! Got you, you little pest!" Emi says.

"Were those all of them?" I ask.

"Nope, If I recall, there where about 5 of them, and I caught one!"

"Well, 4 more to go then." Opal comments.

"Well, i'm going to set this squeaker outside, and then i'm catching the rest of them!"

Emi leaves and I turn to Opal.

"This is going to be quite the show..." I say.

"Its not a big deal for my little sister, she likes catching bugs and rodents, its like a part of her that humans don't have."

"Are... Are you telling me she has the senses of a cat?"

That might have been a very wrong question to ask.

"Maybe, I don't know the reason for her fascination, being the younger sibling goes a long way."

Emi comes back inside.

"Hold on, i'm gonna..."

She jumps on the counter and into the hatch.

There she goes again.

"AH!" I hear through the vents.

"Sis! Are you good?" Opal shouts.

Emi comes out of the hatch, rat in one hand and a small bleeding wound on the other.

"This rat bit me!"

"Oh no, set the rat outside and get the wound disinfected, it can get dangerous!" I say, concerned for Emi's health.

"I'll stay here, i'll find a way to catch those other three rats." Opal says.

In no time me and Emi are in the maid's quarters, I have brought a first aid kit.
