I get up from the floor slowly. Confused at what had just happened. It takes me a few moments to compose myself. I take a deep breath and shake my head, in an attempt to brush it off.

Oh fuck my head really hurts.

I must have banged it against the wall.

I blink a few times to stop my vision from blurring.

Shit.

Work.

I check my pockets quickly.

Oh thank god.

I had already grabbed my car keys and pager.

When I get to the hospital I go straight to the attendings lounge and go to my locker. I open it and pull out my scrubs and a long sleeve t-shirt to put underneather it and place it on the bench below my locker.

I rip my clothes off of my body and screw them up and shove them back in the locker in place of where my scrubs were before. I glance at the mirror in the inside of the door and notice a big hand shaped red mark on  my left arm.

Shaking my head, I put on my t-shirt, scrubs and white coat and walk out the room and towards the surgery board.

Thank god I have nothing until 10:00am.

I quickly check my watch.

9:13am

When I look back up I see Dr Shepherd walking towards me. I roll my eyes as he stops in front of me.

"Did you sleep in?" He asks smirkly at me.

"No, I've been here for ages." I lie.

"Sure." He says nodding his head not sounding remotely convinced."Well whilst you were sleeping I had the best surgery ever."

I stare at him, blinking at him a few times waiting for him to continue.

"Don't you just love that feeling of adrenaline after a big successful surgery? Oh wait you haven't had one in a while, have you?" He says mockingly.

I scoff, "Whatever, I have one in 45 minutes and I can guarantee I will be able to do it quicker and better than you. So have fun..."I scan my eyes over the OR board, "doing nothing." I finished before turning away and patting him on the shoulder.

As I walk past him I can't help but be in engulfed by his aftershave.

God dammit, why does it smell so good.

10:00am

As I scrub in, I let the cold water cover my wrists and hands over and over again. I find the cleanliness of the whole process very comforting. After finishing scrubbing in, I take a second to calm my nerves and to remember that I deserve to be here.
