13. Danger - Nicki

It had been a week since Nicki had moved in with Alexander. His room already felt like home. She loved how it smelled like him even when he wasn't around. The musk and roses. It screamed Alexander. The tiles unfortunately also screamed Alexander but she had added a few rugs to cover up some of them.

Nicki had been lying on the couch, reading a book as she had waited for Alexander. The fire in the fireplace crackled, creating a cozy atmosphere in the living room. She yawned and closed her book. She got up and put it down on the table.

"Reeva, I'm heading to bed. Can you help me to get changed?" Her maid bowed.

"Of course, Miss." She said and headed with Nicki to the bedroom to help her get changed. Nicki had started to accept Reeva's help a few days ago when she noticed that getting dressed started to take more effort. She had her maid for a reason so she might as well make use of it.

Reeva left her alone as Nicki got in bed. She missed Alexander. He had promised her that he would be back before she would be asleep but apparently work was taking longer than expected. That was living with a king for you. Nicki sighed but soon enough fell asleep.

It had been late when Alexander finally crawled in bed with her. She had woken up when she felt him get in bed. She had felt how he put his strong arms around her but had fallen asleep shortly after that. But now she was half awake and this time it wasn't because of Alexander or the baby. Something was off but she didn't know what.

Suddenly the door opened and someone rushed to them with vampire speed. She saw a glimpse of silver. Shit. Alexander! Nicki quickly rolled on top of him so he would be protected. She felt the sword impale her body and gasped. Alexander had woken up when she rolled on top of him but had been too late to do anything. All he could do was watch how the sword went in her body, harming her and the baby. Shock appeared on his face as he took in what had happened.

Nicki heard yelling behind her while the person who had stabbed her yanked the sword out of her body. She collapsed on Alexander. Her blood gushed over him as his arms wrapped around her. She heard him yell something but was unable to understand the words. Darkness was welcoming her. She tasted the metallic flavour of blood. Was it hers or someone else? She didn't know. All she knew was that the darkness took her away.
