CHALK & STONE

Cuneiform stones
stay in their place,
drawing notices.

Letters of the alphabet
written from chalk
suit our fading comprehension.

  ***

There
occurred an explosion!
There on the hillocks
where ancient calligraphy
stayed on the mounds of
caves
and the busts dropped dead
on thresholds,
we comprehended
a township
cooking conflict
on its hearths.

   ***

The school bells rang
for the sixth term
and the whole top-portions
stood riddled
with innocents' terrorised echoes.

There we comprehended!
That some books
carry terror
with/on their titles.

THE LETTER

I have burnt
all letters.
They had
the smell
of initiatives past.
A few envelopes
had the incense
of sandalwood
but before dispatching them
your way,
your conspiracies
had been intercepted.

Your words
were pumping poison
into the lake.

***

You undressed
the melancholy
in my letters
and proclaimed
my friendship
too tough
to endure.

  ***

You never
cared
for hand-written letters.
You never detected
their secrets.
You wanted to search
within them
the credentials
of an appreciative
shorthand.
I kept offering you
logic
without any allegiances.

   ***

Now
there wouldn't
be any extraordinary
exchanges
between us.
The highs and the lows
of our words
will cease.

I will
write my letters
in a room
far away
from yours.

  ***

Because
it was you
who sent me
little chits
with adhesives
of lust
and greed.

You must
keep those
documents
safe with you.
They will
tell your tale
with impunity.
