A low grumble mixed in with curse words came out from her mouth as her eyes filled with distress stared blankly at the laptop screen in front of her. Her fingers lightly tapped themselves against the keyboard, thus forming various numbers and letters on the word document she was typing in.
Hailey Sterling's high stress levels were really getting to her. The amount of work that had been put on her shoulders thanks to her company was extremely overwhelming. She wanted to keep going with her list of tasks she had to complete, but Hailey couldn't help but feel her eyelids getting heavier, her head hanging lower.
A white mug, which held the contents of a dark brown liquid known as coffee was placed on the desk Hailey was working on, right next to her keyboard. Taking notice of it, Hailey brought the mug into her grasp by holding onto the handle. She then lifted it up towards her lips and nipped a little sip of the drink.
The coffee tasted stale, cold, and its flavour had no sense of relief to it whatsoever. The taste was unappealing and it made the girl grimace. It seems like due to working so much, Hailey had completely forgotten about her mug of coffee, and that caused it to become cold within time.
Hailey groaned and thus placed the mug back down onto the desk. She pushed it away slightly, not wanting to look at it. She could always make another one later. One that's better tasting, and definitely piping hot. Hailey always hated her coffee when it was cold. Even reheating it in the microwave didn't do it any good. All it did was increase the bitterness.
Putting her attention back onto the laptop in front of her, Hailey started to type again. She yawned quietly, her eyes blinking rapidly from all the drowsiness she was facing. She felt as if though any minute now, she could literally collapse onto the table, and pass out.
Hell, the thought of that didn't even sound so bad to Hailey at the moment.
The bedroom door was meekly opened, a tiny creak sound being produced when done so. Hailey didn't even acknowledge the sound because of how concentrated she was. Her head was up in the clouds, but she wouldn't prescribe them to be ivory, fluffy, ones. They were more so the gloomy, grey, dull clouds that her mind was trapped in.
When the door was opened, a person walked inside, shutting it gently behind him. He laid his eyes upon the woman that was sitting still at her workspace, clearly occupied. Truth be told, she had been this way for hours now. He was keeping track of the time.
"Hey..honey?" He called out to Hailey gently to gain her awareness. She turned her head around upon hearing her name being said.
"Jake? Do you need something?" Hailey rotated her chair around to face him using the wheels it had. She folded her arms, all the while secretly hoping that Jake wouldn't keep her too long, and she could go back to work soon enough.
"Well..it's not that I need something.." Jake began to talk, walking himself towards her a little bit. "I was just wondering. You've been working for a good while. I mean, it's almost.."
He glanced down at his watch.
"Two and a half hours. Yeah, you've been on that laptop of yours for almost that amount of time, sweetheart.."
A silence grew between them both. It thus created a strange sort of tension to form, which made Jake fidget a bit in place. He didn't know why things went so quiet all of a sudden. He didn't say something out of order to his wife. He only brought up how long she's been doing her work assignments.
...
"And your point?"
Hailey lifted up an eyebrow in perplexity giving her response that sounded quite careless.
