FRIDAY

"Are you coming over for movies tonight?" Logan whispers from the desk next to me, snapping me out of a trance. I seem to be in a lot of those recently. Usually something to do with a certain brunette rugby player.

"Yeah. What time?" I whisper back.

"Whenever. The others are coming at six I think." She replies.

I nod and return my attention to the whiteboard. Once class finishes, I put in my earphones and press play on 'Not Strong Enough' by boygenius and head to Physics. I sit at one of the empty tables towards the back as per usual and pull out my book while I wait for the teacher. 'The Handmaid's Tale'.

"Okay, today we're continuing our topic of Waves and Thermodynamics. Can anyone start us off with a recap?"

-

I kick off my shoes and put them away before running upstairs to change. I got splashed by a car outside of school and my tights and skirt were pretty much soaked. I change into a t-shirt and sweatpants and run a towel through my hair to dry it while half cleaning my room to a degree. Through my bedroom window, I spot Quinn in his room. His blazers discarded and he's tugging down his tie. He goes to shut the curtains and his eyes meet mine, a small smirk tugs at his lips before he closes the curtains. That most definitely made me look like a pervert. And I'm probably going to see him tonight. Why do I care? I don't. I walk back downstairs to the kitchen and grab a snack since I'll probably be eating at Logan's again. I sit on the couch and turn on One Tree Hill while I eat.

Mom

Is it alright if I go to Logan's
again tonight for movies?

Yes that's fine, hon. I should
be home about seven. Have fun 😘

Thanks mom. See you later tonight

When it hits five minutes to six I switch off the tv and open the door with my keys, locking it behind me and walk across the street to Logan's house and knock on the door.

"Hey." I look up and lock eyes with Quinn. He's wearing sweatpants and a black shirt now that hugs his body in a way I'm pretending I don't see.

"Hi." I say back.

"Logan's in the living room with Phoebe. You can head straight in." He says and steps aside so I can walk through.

"Thanks." I enter the house and go into the living room where Logan and Phoebe are both looking through DVDs. Phoebe notices me first and smiles, "Hey, Maddie."

I return the smile and kneel down next to them. "Any options yet?" I ask.

"So far we have, The Maze Runner, What A Girl Wants and Easy A." Logan says. "What do you think."

"I like all of those, I don't really mind." I say.

"Madeline?" I spin around to see Quinn leaning in the doorway holding up my copy of The Tempest.

"Oh, thanks." I stand up and walk over to him.

"No problem. Thanks again for lending it to me. I passed my assessment so it definitely helped." He says and hands it to me.

"I'm glad." I smile and take it. His hand brushes mine for half a second, I almost jump from the sensation and I'm pretty sure I'm going insane. The last boy I remotely liked was 4th grade and then I ended up hitting him in the face when he bullied my only friend I'd made that year. I got expelled and the supposed friend ghosted me. But this is different, because I don't like Quinn he's just an attractive guy my age. Nothing more.

"Heyyyy!" Olivia and Rowan come in together, sliding past me and Quinn.

"Voting time!" Logan says and presents four DVDs. I sit down next to them and we end up with The Maze Runner with a 3-0-2 vote.

Logan's mom comes in with pizza and fries, laying the plates on the table. "Dinner is served." We all dig in and the movie starts.

-

The movie finishes at eight so I head back home soon after. "Hey Maddie, how was it?" My mom says from the kitchen when I walk in. I slip off my shoes and sit at the kitchen table.

"It was good, we watched The Maze Runner. How was work?" I ask.

"Good. I've been in contact with some people from the office in Georgia." Two months till we move again. It was hard every move, but I had a feeling it was going to be even harder this time.

I nod and grab a bottle of water from the fridge. "Good." I say, turning on my heels to head upstairs.

"Maddie." My mom says, her voice soft. I turn back to face her. "Are you happy here?" She asks.

I didn't want to say yes and make her feel guilty. But I didn't want to lie either. "I think I am."

She nods and brushes a lock of hair behind my ear. "I know this isn't easy. I'm sorry. You know I love you, right?"

I put on a smile to relax her and nod. "I know. I love you too. Night."

"Night, my Maddie." She smiles and kisses my head. I climb the stairs and go to my bedroom, putting away the book Quinn gave back. I pull out 'The Handmaid's Tale' from my bag and fall back onto my bed, putting in my earphones and playing Lana Del Rey while I read.
