This chapter is in Basil's pov!! c:
----------------------------♡▪︎°.----------------------------
You're laying alone in your bed, tears and old pictures flooding your room. Your eyes are red from all the crying and you can barely fell your face. The only reason you haven't killed yourself yet are probably your flowers.
You haven't gone out in a whole week, since Aubrey started bullying you again. If only she knew that without you sunny would be dead by now...
You've passed out from crying and how little you've been eating two times this week alone, and your polaroid camera has been collecting dust at the bottom of the trash can along with some pictures Sunny blacked out.
You haven't taken care of yourself in a little while, and the flower in your hair has faded. Amazing last touch to that depressed hobo look you're pulling off!
The clock strikes 4pm, it's the only time of the day when you actually get out of bed (and occasionally, eat). It's time to water your flowers.
You painfully drag your shell of a body out of bed, stepping on used tissues and old pictures on the way. You grab your watering can before finally stepping out of your room. You make sure to display at least a slight smile, as to not worry Polly too much. You slowly watch the watering can fill up with water and sigh. You then start watering each flower carefully, it's the only thing that brings you if not just a bit of comfort nowadays.
You start by the lilies of the valley, they've been dead for years, but you never dared to throw them out or stop watering them, maybe in desperate hope they'll come back. Now that you think about it, they all died around the same time as Mari... You move on to the gladiolus, they seem fine, but they haven't bloomed in a while. You gently start watering the roses, they haven't been doing too well... Maybe there's some sort of bug eating them around here? You'll have to check later. The lilies were starting to fade, but they seem to be getting better! The cactuses always look like they're rocking it, but they usually have some sort of parasite plant killing them on the inside. You need to pay extra care to the cactuses. Out of all the flowers, your sunflowers are probably doing the worse. They look worse and worse every day, and you wonder if you should just let them die. They already look dead anyways, and- wait a minute... The sunflowers aren't facing the sun?? You inspect their trajectory attentively and... Oh, they're facing the lilies? Thats a little strange... Maybe they're already dying?? Or maybe-
Your thoughts are cut short by the sound of the landline ringing. Both your parents have been away for business for two months, so who in the world could be calling? You turn around just in time to see Polly answer the phone.
"Hello? mhm... Oh, Basil you say? of course, im sure he'd be enchanted to talk to you!" Polly turns to you and hands you the phone with a smile on her face.
You reluctantly take the phone to your ear. "Hello?" You briefly catch yourself hoping sunny is on the other line.
"Hiiiiii, Basil was it?" You hear the smug, irritating voice of Sunny's mom in your ear.
"Oh hello, Mrs. Suzuki." The disappointment in your voice could not be any more noticeable.
What could she possibly want from you anyways? Is Sunny okay?? Did something happen???
"Sunny's been feeling a little down lately and-" Your mind goes blank. Oh no... Something definitely happened. What if he killed himself!? What if he got in some freak accident or something!??
The phone almost falls out of your hand as you get lost in your thoughts again.
"So could he visit you next week?" Wait wait wait wait, what were you talking about again..? Uhhh uhm.. Just smile and nod. Should do the trick right? "mhm!" You respond nervously.
"Great! we'll see you in a week then. He'll stay for two days if that's okay with you." That definitely wasn't a question. Also, WHAT!?? Sunny staying over!? But doesn't he live hours away now?? Plus your place is an absolute mess right now! And so are you when you think about it..
"uh- actually-" Before you can even begin your sentence, you ear loud beeps. She hung up. Great.
You put down the phone and dont finish watering your flowers. You decide not to eat anything today either. You just anxiously drag yourself back to your room and curl up in a corner.
Your thoughts are spinning so fast in your head its making you dizzy, and your mind spirals into an endless loop of what ifs.
You feel your brain slowly eating itself inside out, maybe from how anxious you are right now, or maybe because of your lack of sleep lately, might be because you havent eaten in a while too.
Either way, you're panicking. You can barely breathe. You're shaking, crying, your vision is getting blurry...
You want to see sunny, but not now! at least not like that... You glance back at the pictures scattered on your bed and your camera at the bottom of the trash can. You've been a complete mess since sunny left.
It's just like re-living the last four years of your life all over again, and it feels like torture. All you've done is cry and feel sorry for yourself.
Gosh, why do you even miss him that much? It's only been a little over a week since he moved, you should've been able to last longer than that. But not missing him is just so hard... you feel way too guilty about everything to just not care...
He probably already found new friends, heck, he probably already forgot about you! You cant help but cry a little harder at the thought of sunny moving on so easily.
Andddd... Woohoo, you passed out! Great way of getting rid of your problems, buddy.
You wake up on the cold floor of your room. Your alarm clock shows 2:48AM. You should probably eat something.
You feel frail and standing up takes a lot of effort, but you manage. As you grab whatever you can find in the fridge, you notice a small paper envelope on the kitchen counter. Your curiosity takes the best of you and you decide to open it.
Its written in a messy handwriting and is barely visible, but you can make out the words "Polly" "another month" and "dont tell basil". It's signed by your mom. Thats pretty typical of her.
Just then, as you finish eating a chocolate bar you found and stare at the letter, an idea hits you.
What if you wrote letters to sunny..?
