"It's...it's my cabin," Becky said, almost struggling with her words. She never felt like this. She was scared. Not for getting caught but for freen, she can't lose her.
"What??" Freen almost yelled, unable to believe what she just heard.
"Technically, it was my mum's. Since she passed, I have been the one using it." She explained.
"Why didn't I know about this?" Freen asked clearly frustrated.
"Cause I haven't been here for a while."
There was silence. Either of them not know what to say next.
"Do you think it's the same killer?" Becky asked. She needed to know. She needed to know how far they were willing to go. And for what? To plant evidence and let her get caught? Or is it like sending a message? Like I'm also in the game or something?
"Yes, we think so. So far, the pattern fits." Freen said.
"There is nothing to suggest it's not?" Becky asked. Because clearly it wasn't her and whoever it was clearly knew more than enough and that wasn't safe.
"Why do you think it's not the same killer?" Freen quirked her eyebrow.
"I..uh.. you have told me the killer loved attention and left the victims in public places. This hardly qualifies as public." She came up with an excellent excuse.
"Yeah, right. Except that everything else fits."
"Why do you think that is?" Ofcourse becky knew why. Because she was the killer. She was the deranged hero. Someone needed her attention. And they have it now. Her full attention. But she needed to know what the police think or mostly what freen think. She knew Freen wouldn't doubt her but becky still doubted herself.
"I don't want to think. Not anymore." Freen said, releasing a deep sigh.
"Why?"
"Why do you think? The serial killer I'm investigating left the latest victim in my girlfriend's cabin. How does that sound to you?" Freen said highly agitated.
"You think it's about you?" May be it is about freen too. Maybe they are sending a message to her, too? Was freen not safe? She didn't have to worry until now. Because until now she was the one on the other side but not anymore. Now there is someone else. Someone who wouldn't care what happens to freen.
"Of course it has to be. How can it be about you? He only goes for bad people, which I know you aren't, which leaves me this one explanation. Unless there's something you wanna tell me?"
Oh sweetheart, you have no idea how bad I'm or the things I have done. I'm bound to make some enemies. But if someone knows, why aren't they going to the police? Why play this game?
"Becky?" Freen called trying to get becky's attention back.
"Yeah. No, there's nothing. I only know what you told me." She said. She had to play the part.
She can't be blindsided about this. She needed as much information as she could get about the kill. She needed to know more. She has to ask freen. Now, that is something she never did before. She tried to steer full clear of anything that had to do with her kills. Freen was the one who always talked about it with her. And she did her best to be the amazing supporting girlfriend. But this time, she has to ask. May be freen wouldn't think much of it? After all, it's her cabin, and she can know.
"Do you know who the victim is?"
Freen had a sad expression on her face. This can't be good.
"No, we don't. Becky, it's nothing like the previous ones. This one..it's...it's gruesome. We can't even identify the person by looking at his face."
This is getting scarier by the minute. If someone is willing to go that far, then this can't be their first. And for sure won't be their last. Even if she killed people, she had a code. She only went for bad people. What if this person doesn't have it? What if he or she hurt innocent people? Now, that is something she can't let happen. Not definitely, while hiding behind her identity, She won't let anyone use her like that. If the police can't, then she will find them.
"Can I take a look?" She asked even before she could process what she was gonna ask. It came out. And now there was nothing she could say. What would freen think?
"Becky, I just told you it's not pleasant. Why would you want to put yourself through that?"
"Please, freen, I have to. It's my cabin. What if it's someone I know? I can handle it. I study criminology for a reason." She tried to ease the tension.
"Are you sure?" Freen asked. She did want to stop becky. But she knew once Becky decided something, there was nothing she could do or say to stop her from doing that. Better she let's her than her barging in.
"Yeah."
You don't have to worry about me, freen. You will be surprised to know about the things I can handle.
