Becky got off her car and headed towards her front porch. She was doing her new project earlier after she left her office. She collected all the info about the case. She did her own digging in the dark web. Anything and everything that would get her closer, closer than the police to her next target. She was mindful of the fact that she could be observed. Police could be observing her. So she was cautious, extremely so.
She took out her phone to see whether Freen had responded or not. There was a text that was a relief at the least. But the content wasn't so relieving. She was out of the city. 'Is it safe?' was the first thought that came to her mind. What is this copycat planning? That was the next problem she needed to solve. But right now, her first priority was this serial rapist. She wasn't going to let anyone innocent die on her watch, not anymore.
"Who got you pissed off like that?" An all too familiar voice came from the front.
"Irin? What are you doing here?" Becky asked.
"Again? Do I need a reason to visit my own sister?"
Becky shook her head. She should improve her front door manners, she thought.
"Of course not."
She went ahead and unlocked the door, opened it wide, and with a wide smile she spoke,
"Come on in!"
They both walked inside. She went ahead and hung her coat before helping Irin out of hers and hung it in the rack.
"You didn't answer my question."
She looked back, furrowing her eyebrows contemplating what to say.
"It's just freen, she haven't been answering my calls and just now texted me, saying she was out of city chasing down some lead."
"So which one is it? Her not answering your calls or chasing down leads that got you pissed?"
"Why would her chasing down leads bother me?" It would have if she was chasing leads regarding her. But it's not about her. Which was a relief and at the same time a bother.
Irin just shrugged.
"It's neither. I just had something important to tell her, and she is unreachable." Becky released a sigh. She had a lot of things to talk with Freen. She being out of the city chasing down this copycat wasn't helping her. Her safety was the main concern for Becky right now. She almost thought about following freen until she spotted Irin.
"I was about to put the kettle on. Fancy a tea?" Becky asked before walking to the kitchen.
"Sure."
"How is school?" Becky asked. Business as usual.
"Nope. We are not doing that. You get to ask me that all the time. Now it's my turn to hassle you about everything that is going on with you." Irin said with a wink.
"Sistah time?" Becky asked. The name that Irin came up with. Anytime Irin needed her, she would text or call Becky and say those words. And that would mean it's time for Irin and Irin alone.
"Duh!" Irin replied playfully.
They talked about everything. Her first ever case, the encounter with Friend and Jane. Irin talked about her new crush and her studies. Time seemed to have skipped immersed in their conversation.
"This was nice and all, but don't you think it's time you tell me the real reason you are here?" Becky asked, raising her eyebrows.
"Why do you always think I have an ulterior motive?"
"Because you do. Otherwise, you wouldn't come all the way out here on a school day and wait on my front porch until I was home." She said with conviction.
