The sun seemed to have risen brighter than ever. It was coming through the windows so brightly that you had to close your eyes a little to get a good view. This was how Penelope wanted to feel at her wedding, but all she was feeling was shivering. Maybe for fear of the unknown, for fear that what they were doing wasn't the right thing....
Danbury walked into her room where she was already standing waiting for her."I hope you've got everything ready, I have to go," Danbury stopped her in her tracks.
"Everything is more than ready, you're the only one missing. Come in," she said to one of her maids.
The maid entered with a pile of things in her hands and, behind her, Madame Delacroix appeared; which caused Penelope immense joy."Delacroix," she said, giving her a hug, "I did not expect your visit," she confessed.
"Did you think I would miss such an event? In fact look what I have for you," she showed her a kind of bag, "It's your wedding dress."
"But we made one with our mothers the other day," she said, looking at Lady Danbury.
"You didn't think I was going to let you get married in a dress you didn't choose, did you? It's a unique day in a woman's life and you can't do it if you don't like what you're wearing in the first place."
"Penelope, there's no time to lose, you need to start getting ready," Delacroix warned her.
The young lady nodded and everyone left except the dressmaker and one of the maids. Penelope had only to sit down and let them do the rest.
She looked again and again at the ring she wore on her hand, the hand that was engaged to Colin. And she remembered every time he had danced with her out of sheer commitment, or so she thought.
"I have to accept it, Colin! I'm a fully-fledged spinster, so you can go and dance with other girls, not here with me."
"It seems you don't know me very well, Pen," Colin replied sarcastically. "If that was the reason, I would have stopped dancing with you a long time ago. I just dance with you because I like dancing with you."
"Of course you do, Colin. Let me dream a little more. You don't have to prove anything to me," she said, looking down at the floor.
"And I don't want to. Because only I know what I want and what I feel in every moment."
How had everything taken a 180-degree turn? At what point? She had come back determined to forget about him, and he had made sure that it didn't happen. It had been going on for quite some time now, and the sun was beating down on her eyes.
"How much longer?" asked Penelope.
"In fact, Miss Featherington is already here."
Penelope opened her eyes, and both Madame Delacroix and the maid became excited. She went to a mirror on the wall and began to look at herself from head to toe. That couldn't be her.
During that time, Penelope had certainly changed, but when she saw herself in her wedding dress she couldn't help but be moved as she saw that she was no longer a girl, she was a woman, just as Lady Danbury had told her the night before.
"I hope this girl is still the diamond I met a few weeks ago."
The three turned their heads to see that indeed the Queen had just made an appearance only worthy of royalty.
"Your Majesty," said all three at once.
"Please, I have come to Lady Danbury's residence as a friend, not as the Queen," she looked at the maid and Madame Delacroix, "I would like to be alone with the young lady".
