A Personal Encounter

I took a quick second to gather my thoughts before joining the girls. I walked over to them.

Me: Happy birthday Jen!!!

Jen looked up and screamed with excitement.

Jen: Dejaaaa! You're here! Yaaay!

Me: Heeeey birthday girl!

We embraced each other.

Jen: What the heck happened out there though?

Me: I have no idea really. All I know is that a fight broke out and we had to dip fast.

Jen: That is so wild! Anyway, I'm ready for us to turn up tonight.

Me: I know that's right. Let's go.

I walked over to the couch and hugged the rest of the crew before sitting down to eat some of the chips and dip. I was ready to have fun but my mind was occupied with replaying the fact that I just saw Jay. HERE!

Alicia elbowed me softly.

Alicia: Spill it! Now!

Me: Hahaha. There's nothing to spill yet.

Before I could respond, my phone buzzed. I looked down at my phone and saw that Jay messaged me. My eyes grew big because I know Alicia saw the same notification. I had to tell her now.

Alicia: Say it because I noticed how you paused at the door. Girl I'm your best friend and I know you. Hahaha!

Me: You work my nerve. Jay is here. Long story short.

Alicia: Wait, he what?! What do you mean he's here?

My phones buzzed again and when I looked at my phone, it was Jay again. I opened the messages.

Jay: It's a small world. I had no idea you'd be here too.

Jay: Hit me up when you're free. Enjoy your girls night and be safe. You look beautiful.

Me: I definitely didn't expect to see you here either. Thank you. You be safe as well.

I locked my phone and put my focus back on telling Alicia what happened.

Me: So, yes he's here. I just saw him as we came into the room before I closed the door. He was standing right there and we had locked eyes.

Alicia: That's wild. You've been running into him kind of often. I wonder what that means.👀

Me: Absolutely nothing. Don't you start your mess.

Alicia: I don't know sis..but then again wait. Isn't he with..?

Me: Well, he said they broke up. So that's that.🤷🏽‍♀️

Alicia: Oh that's your sign then.

Me: My sign for what??

Alicia: To fall in love again.

Me: Alicia if you don't leave me alone. I've already made up my mind about love. I'm done with it. I mean I'll be cordial and socialize with him but that's as far as it's going.

Alicia: Mmm..yea right. You'll see how done you are. Keep talking to him and you'll soon find out.

Jen got everybody's attention because it was time to sing our songs and eventually sing happy birthday. As we were enjoying the night, I needed to go to the ladies room.

Me: Ladies, I'll be right back. I'm going to the restroom.

Alicia: I'm right behind you.

A couple of hours had gone by and all of the commotion outside had come to an end. We walked out of the private room and went looking for the restroom.

Alicia: So did you hear from Jay again tonight?

Me: No. I mean he's busy.

Alicia: Mmhmm..

Me: Why are you so worried about it?

A smile came across my face and I giggled.

Alicia: What was that smile for?! You see! This is why I need to know.

Before I could respond, my phone vibrated. I pulled my phone out and it was a message from Jay.

Jay: I know I said for you to hit me up but I was just wondering, are you enjoying your night?

I looked up and Alicia smirked at me and started walking. She didn't see that it was Jay but she noticed the change in my energy when I opened the message.

Me: It's ok, you're not a bother but yes I'm really enjoying my night. Currently looking for the restroom. How's your night going?

I had to speed walk to catch up with Alicia. This was my first time at this place and I didn't feel like getting lost.

Jay: I'm glad you're enjoying your night. You deserve to. Oh and make a right at the end of the hall. You'll see the bathrooms on your left.

I stopped walking, my eyes grew big 😳 and I became extremely hot all over my body. I was nervous. I looked up to see Alicia down the hall giving me a look before walking off. I wanted to turn around so bad but I was to nervous. I had to play it cool.

Me: Ummm sounds like you have eyes on me. Shouldn't they be on your activities? Lol

Jay: I mean they were but right now we have the same destination. I didn't mean to come off stalker ish but you just so happen to be in my sight lol.

I found the courage to turn around and when I did, he was almost within arms reach. I locked my phone and put it in my purse.

As Jay got closer to me, my stomach started to flip and in that moment I wasn't sure why. It wasn't like I've never seen him in person. We somewhat grew up together in church.

Jay's 6ft frame towered over my small 5 foot 2 frame. He had rich dark brown skin, medium length curly hair and a smile to kill for. This man was absolutely gorgeous but I wasn't about to get caught up in all of that.

Me: So tell me the truth Jay. You followed me down here haha.

He gave me a warm smile that triggered my smile. At this point I forgot that I needed to use the restroom. This was not good.

Jay: Nahh. I promise I didn't. I really needed to go to the bathroom and you just so happen to be going in the same direction.

I shifted my weight for the third time and I caught myself being a little fidgety. Somehow I played it off, or so I thought I did and took a couple of steps back. I needed some distance.

Me: If you say so. I mean if you wanted to talk face to face then you could have told me.

Jay: It's all good beautiful. I know for next time. We can talk when we are both free. If you want to.

He stepped closer closing the gap between us, held my hands, and stared at me for a few seconds. The intensity that this man had was unexplainable in the moment. It was different.

Jay: I noticed you took a few steps back. I know this is out of your comfort zone and it's ok. Don't run.

As soon as he stopped talking I heard Alicia call my name and I turned my head quick to see her walking towards us.

Jay let my hands go softly and walked to the bathroom. I didn't know how to really feel. I just stood there replaying that entire encounter. Everything happened so fast.

My body was doing things that it had never done before. The most shocking for me is that it was doing ONE thing that it had not done in years. That one thing it was doing was: FEELING AGAIN....😳

YALL!!!! JAY AND DEJA HAVE FINALLY COME FACE TO FACE. I've been itching to get to this! I have to keep calm and milk this thing. My thoughts are racing lol.
