After we celebrated Jen's birthday, I ended up crashing at Alicia's house on her couch. I had one to many shots trying to drown out the feelings that crept in when I was face to face with Jay.
(Sound of my alarm clock going off)
I rolled over to turn my alarm off. As I tried to open my eyes, my head and eyes started throbbing and I closed my eyes immediately. I turned my alarm off and put my phone back on the arm of the couch.
Me: Aliciiiiaaaaa!
I winced and frowned in pain after calling her because the hanger over that I had was hanging. I heard Alicia coming down the stairs and when I opened one eye, she had a bottle of water and an ibuprofen 800.
Alicia: Girl, I know that call all to well hahaha.
Me: Thank you. How are you not hungover?
Alicia: Because that's my type of drinking but you on the other hand-
Me: Hush. I know I'm a light weight. Don't be rubbing it in.🙄
Alicia: I'm just saying..🤷🏽♀️
Me: Saying a lot of nothing..😂 ooouuuuch I can't laugh.
Alicia: Hurry up and take that then go eat so you can tell me what last night was all about.
I took the medicine and waited about 20 minutes before getting ready for breakfast. I had a taste for pancakes, cheesy eggs, grits and sausage. I decided to go to Fluffy Pancakes. Yummy!
Alicia had to stay home because she had tutoring sessions throughout the day.
My head and eyes finally stopped hurting and it was time to get myself ready. I always kept a couple of outfits at Alicia's house for times like this.
I got in the shower and decided to use a lavender body wash. Lavender anything was always my go to, to relax me. After I used my body wash, I used a lavender body scrub. After my shower I applied my shower gel. Whoever came up with the idea of making a gel that you have to put on wet skin means the world to me.
It had been a while since I last spent the night at Alicia's so my outfit was going to be a surprise for me. I went to the guest closet and I saw my orange sundress hanging up. That was going to be the outfit of the day. I grabbed my dress and white sandals and got dressed. I put my locks into a high bun, skipped makeup and went with lipgloss.
I noticed I had not checked my notifications on my phone and I just had a feeling I had quite a few.
Me: Bestie! I'm on my way out of here.
Alicia: Okay! Here I come!
Alicia came out of her room and gave me a hug.
Me: Alight, I'll see you later. I'll let you know when I get there.
I grabbed the rest of my stuff and got in the car. As I let my car warm up, I checked my messages. There were two notifications that stood out and they were messages from Jay.
Jay: Hey did you make it home? (12:30 am)
Jay: Good morning ☀️ (8:30 am)
The previous encounter flashed before my eyes and for a second, I didn't know if I should have responded right away or not. I thought about it and decided to write him back right away instead of waiting.
Me: Well good morning to you😁
He had to be holding his phone because he opened the message before I could click out of the dm..😂
Jay: There you are. I was hoping you made it home safe.
Me: Aawweeee how sweet of you. I actually ended up sleeping at Alicia's house.
Jay: Oh ok. That was a smart move. You've always been one to think safe.
Me: Thank you. How would you know something like that? It's not like we interacted with each other growing up. We just attended the same church.
Jay: I had my eye on you growing up. I observe a lot. I didn't want to scare you off or hurt you.
Me: Wow, I had no idea. I honestly thought you didn't see me for real. You said you didn't want to hurt me, but how?
Jay: I mean, my lifestyle was fast and it wasn't what you needed. I didn't want to drop my baggage on you. I didn't want to taint you.
Me: I understand and I respect you for that. I really do.
Jay: Oh most def. Even if we had gotten along in that way back then, I knew I didn't want to bring you any type of heartache.
Before I could respond, my phone started to ring. It was my little cousin.
I talked to her for a minute and as usual, she was only calling to borrow some money because her child's father took her money. I love my cousin but she puts herself in positions that could easily be avoided.
After I got off the phone with her, I looked at the time and realized that I had been "warming my car up" for 30 minutes. Before heading to Fluffy Pancakes, I responded to Jay.
Me: Well, again, I really appreciate the consideration. That was very mature of you. So, as much as I would love to keep talking, I really do have to get on this road lol I'm hungry.
Jay: Oh my bad. Don't let me keep you. What are you eating this morning?
Me: No, you're totally fine. When the conversation flows and is good, time flies. I'm actually going to Fluffy Pancakes. Have you heard of it?
Jay: You cappin' lol
Me: Whaaat? lol
Jay: Because that's where I am now. This is my go to spot. I'm a regular.
My eyes grew big, my stomach started to flip and I giggled to myself. I knew Sarasota was on the small side, but not that small.
Me: Oh woooooow! lol that's funny. Let me go ahead and start driving. Maybe I'll see you there.
Jay: No problem. Maybe. Drive safe.
I pulled out of the driveway and headed to breakfast. As I was driving, I replayed the conversation we just had. It went so smooth and I wasn't sure what to think of it. I was committed to keeping my heart locked away.
Once I made it to my destination, I felt myself getting nervous. I've been like that my whole life except this time it felt like something extra. I couldn't put my finger on it but I knew it was something else.
I walked in and the host took me to a small booth. As I looked through the menu, my breathing changed. I put the menu down and somehow knocked my keys onto the floor. I leaned over to pick them up and as I put my hand out another hand came into my view and brushed my hand. I popped right back into my seat. I looked to see that it was none other than Jay.
Apart of me was okay with seeing him there. The other part didn't want to see him there. It was only because of the results from our last encounter, just hours prior. I knew what I felt last night threw me off but for the second time, this man and I physically touched. Even though it was just the hands, the electricity was through the roof again. His energy was loud but his loud matched mine. Maybe that's what I was really feeling. I mean, energies can match but you don't have to catch feelings right? Did I really believe that? Was I trying to convince myself?
