Alex's pov

Hello, I'm Alex Baker. If you're ever in the middle of nowhere and you see a random train station me and my friends and I did and wait for a train. That was the weirdest moment
of my life, and it wouldn't be good for anyone, I'm surprised I can even write this. I should start
where it all started on the day I boarded that train. Im assuming that whoever reading this would
like to know what happened well, let me tell you about my family first.
I lived with my mom and two younger siblings, and we lived in a nice house and all, but I
He really didn't like living there. My dad left after my youngest sister Eliza had been born.
Personally, I only knew him for a few years. My family was nice and all but the main thing that
bothered me was that I couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong every time I walked
in the house. The house was next to the forest and a busy highway, so, although a weird
placement for a house, that was what I thought was causing the paranoia. The weirdest day of my
life started on the last day of my senior year of high school.
“Hey do you going to hang out after school?” My friend Sara asks.
My dear best friend Sara she looks very innocent and sweet with her big green eyes and
short brown hair, but she has the most chaotic energy there is. She will often pull an energy drink
out of what seems like thin air and just start chugging it. You need a very niche flavor of a not very popular energy drink she's got it. Then there's me the enby with black hair and extreme
paranoia.
“Why not my house? I mean, it is pretty big,” I reply.
“Alright then, well, we better get to class,” Sara said, throwing away another energy drink
can with a brand I've never seen in stores.
Classes were very simple, saying our last goodbyes to everyone a party in my dance class.
I always got slightly judged by the girls in that class for being the only non girl in every class, but
hey, I like dance. I would have never thought that being in dance might save my life, but we will
get to that later. Everything was just as I expected from the last day of school. The real trouble
happened when Sara and I got to my house.
“Yo I know we’ve been here way too many times, but it gets cooler every time,” Sara
said.
“I guess I just got used to it,” I respond, rubbing the back of my neck.
“Hey do you wanna go outside?” She asks, and I nod.
We walked outside into the backyard and sat down on the grass. I saw a path in the woods
that hadn't been there before. I assume Sara also saw it because she was looking in that direction
too.
“Let's go investigate that,” Sara said, jumping up to go check out where the path went.
“Are you serious? You dont just follow a path that randomly appears in someone's
backyard. Are you trying to get us killed?” I say.
“Come on,” Sara said, dragging us down the path.
I’d explored the forest more times than I could count. I've basically memorized every
landmark you could think of. But as we followed the path, there were no landmarks that I could remember. There was no fallen tree next to the river hell there was no river. The path seemed to
never end as we just kept on walking it was actually starting to get dark. When I looked up, that's
when I noticed that the trees were all dying. When I looked back forward to tell Sara, that's when I
saw it a train station in the middle of nowhere.
“Im getting a weird feeling about this place. We should head back,” I say.
“You worry too much it's not like anything is going to come out at us,” Sara said while
climbing onto the platform.
“Sara I swear if we all die, it's your fault,” I say, climbing onto the platform with her with
a little struggle, curse your dad for being short and passing it onto me.
Sara sat down on one of the benches and pulled out an energy drink literally out of thin
air. Sara just kind of looked like she was just processing the fact that she just summoned an energy
drink. I looked absolutely terrified that Sara just did that. Personally, I was ready to go home. I
I wasn't going to deal with magic and weird train stations anymore. That's when we heard the
whistle of a train, we could hear the sound of it coming.
“Should we start running?” I ask.
“Probably but there's just one problem with that. WE CAN’T MOVE!” Sara shouts.
The train came to a halt where we were at. The doors opened and out stepped a tall
woman in a red conductor's uniform and hat. She had brown hair and sunglasses. I still dont
know why she was wearing sunglasses. She looked at the two of us and very simply shrugged.
“All aboard the Mythic Express,” She said, gesturing inside the train.
I felt something pull me into the train. I couldn't tell what it was, but it felt like I was being
pulled by strings. When we got on the train, I looked around and saw many kids that all looked a
bit scared. The conductor ushered us into some seats next to another person. They had very sharp features and auburn hair that faded to a teal blue. They were wearing a blue shirt, gray pants and
a shell hair clip, they also had an eel charm attached to their clothes. They also gave me this
uncanny feeling like they weren't human even if they looked like one.
“Hello there, Im Carson, Carson Miller, at your service.” He said.
The voice that came out of his mouth sounded very weird to me. I never liked the feeling
that came with his voice even after a while. I wanted to run because of how uncomfortable he
made me feel, but I just sat down. So sadly, I was sitting next to him. Carson was just staring out
the window with a blank look on his face like he wasn't loading what was going on outside or he
was totally spaced out.
“My name is Sara Wilson. Nice to meet you. This is Alex Baker,” Sara says, gesturing
towards me when my name was mentioned.
“Well it's a pleasure to meet you both,” Carson says, not turning away from the window.
“Weird… I dont think he’s normal,” Sara whispered to me.
“You realize none of us are normal right it is heavily implied by the fact we are on a train
and the conductor is a spider person,” Carson said, turning to Sara.
“Wait, the conductors a what now?” I asked.
“The young man is right. I am a spider if you haven’t noticed yet. I am Angie, the spider
lady,” I heard a voice say.
I turned around and saw the conductor standing behind us. I hadn't noticed when we had
walked in, but she had two other pairs of arms. I wanted to scream so badly because Hello Spider
woman. I held it in while she was talking to us.
“So yes, I am a spider or, more technically, an arachnid monster. In fact, everyone on this
train is a monster. But if you are wondering, yes, that means you are all monsters. Some of you're more obvious than others. Due to your friend using magic, the train's course was altered a bit, so
we had to make an extra stop for you two,” she explained.
“Interesting so the stories of monsters and urban legends are real,” Carson said.
“Wait if we are monsters, then why do we look human?” I asked.
“It's probably because we have a human parent,” Carson said, taping his fingers on his
chin.
“Ok so what are we?” Sara asked.
“Well where you are going to find out in a few minutes,” Ms. Angie said. “We are now
approaching the next stop the City of Monsters.”
I hear Carson laugh a little, causing me and me to look at him as he simply waves it off.
Angie had already walked off and to another car of the train by the time we looked back at her.
Something I noticed was that Carson covered his mouth when he laughed. Carson then lowered
his hand and looked at me and Sara.
“So do tell me about yourselves. You seem very fun to be around,” Carson says.
“Well we are just normal kids, ya know…minus the whole half monster deal,” Sara says
“I mean, we are basically average kids,” I say.
“Ah, I see, so nothing abnormal about either of you outside this then?” Carson asks.
“I mean, I have always been interested in magic,” Sara responds.
“Yeah and I’ve always liked dance,” I say.
“Interesting it seems you have interests that line up…" Interesting,” Carson says, putting
his hand on his chin.
“What about you? What do you like to do?” I ask.
“Fishing, swimming, anything to do with the water I enjoy,” He says, shrugging.
Carson then pulls out a little notebook and starts to write in it. I and Sara both nod, and then a
question popped up in my mind. I turn to Carson, who is busy writing, so I tap his shoulder. They
look at me, confused for a second.
“Is there something wrong?” He asks.
“No, nothing's wrong. I just was wondering what you meant by our interests line up?” I
ask.
“Oh you’ll see in a few minutes like Ms. Angie said,” Carson says.
“Alright then…what do you guys want to do while we wait?” Sara asks.
“I have a deck of playing cards if you want to play something,” I say, pulling out the
cards.
“Alright how about we play Go-fish,” Sara suggests.
Carson nodded his head in agreement. Carson starts by shuffling the deck and dealing out
the cards. After only the first round, Sara and Carson both only had one card left.
“Alex do you have any eights?,” Sara asks.
I shake my head no, and she draws from the pile. A few more minutes pass, and now
Carson and I have one card left. Carson looks at me and then looks at his card.
“Got any fives,” He asks.
I shake my head no again. This continues for a few more minutes before I finally win.
Carson covers his mouth and laughs as Sara is trying to figure out how I did it.
“You know, in a luck based game, I have never seen someone have so little and so much luck at the same time,” Carson laughs.
“I just have that,” I laugh.
The three of us begin to laugh with each other. we are acting like we didn't just meet Carson a few minutes ago. Carson then collects all the cards and shuffles the deck again, placing the deck in front of Sara to pass out. A few more rounds of Go-fish go by, and the leader board looks stacked in my favor. A little piece of paper Carson had was marked with each of our names and a tally mark of how many rounds we won. I was in the lead with six, and Carson and Sara were tied with two each. Angie then walked by us and leaned down so she could talk to us directly.
