'Loved'

'Wren? It's lunch now... want to have lunch together? Wren?'

I lifted my head and my eyes flew wide open as I stared at Lana's face two centimeters from mine. She smiled and leaned back into her chair. 'You slept for like three hours. My cat does that sometimes. I was just asking if you wanted to sit with me and a few friends for lunch.

Unless you have other plans, of course.' I watched her twirl a piece of her hair on her finger. How can there be so many colours in it? There were shades of blonde, brown, and even bits of caramel. I patted my own hair nervously. I had always had the darkest hair in my family, as everyone else was blonde. 'Wren? Helloooo?' I shook my head.

'Yeah, sorry. Zoned out there.' She nodded, 'So what about it? Wanna come?'

If you dare eat with her, that's it. She'll pull you into her group of friends, and before you know it, your heart will be on the floor, broken into a million pieces. We know how that happens.

My heart sank to the floor. 'I'm sorry, I don't think I can.' I watched as her excitement slowly faded, and she sadly smiled.

'That's okay, there's always another time. Bye then!'

I slowly waved, and she walked away.

You did the right thing...

Then why did it feel so wrong?

For you, wren, everything is going to be wrong. There's no avoiding it. You left her to die, how can you be happy again? There can never be any happiness without her.

A tear slipped down my cheek. I banged my head against the desk. Again and again and again. Something wet trickled down my forehead. I didn't need to see it to know what it was. The metallic smell of blood drifted towards my nostrils. Sighing, I stood up and made my way around the empty chairs and desks. My head spun. The smell of blood was overpowering. I reached for the door when my eyes met another. Sea-green. It was the last thing I saw before my head hit the floor.

                                                 ________--------***-------________

A soft hand caressed my cheek. My eyes opened, only to look straight into warm brown eyes. My breath caught. Elise. Those lips curved into a smile that I knew the taste of. She held the back of my head and pulled me into her lap. I took a deep breath. Coconuts and sunshine, she had always smelt like that. Closing my eyes, I smiled. I was back home, with her. She leaned down and pressed her mouth softly to mine. My eyes fluttered, and I pulled her head closer. She tasted like a pina colada. My heart soared higher and higher as our lips moved in perfect synchrony. Fuck, I was in love again. The world of love registered in my head, and I jerked back. I looked in her brown eyes again and caressed her cheek.

"Elise, I love you"

She smiled and looked at our clasped hands. "I know. I loved you too.."

My heart clenched. "Loved?" I whispered.

"Well, you can't really love someone if you are dead, Wren."

She ripped her hand from mine, and her body started fading.

I lunged for her "ELISE!"

she stood up and waved. "Move on, wren."

I desperately grasped her dress, but my hands went straight through. I fell through the floor, helpless, as she faded away. I touched my lips. Ironic. They still tasted like her.

Clenching my fists, I got up, took a deep breath, and screamed. " WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM UNIVERSE? WHY DO YOU KEEP DOING THIS TO ME? HOW COULD YOU TAKE THE ONLY THING IN MY ENTIRE WORLD THAT MADE ME HAPPY? HOW COULD YOU? HOW- FUCK!!"

I banged my fists into the wall, and they went straight through.

Fucking dreamworld couldn't even make walls.

"I want to wake up. WAKE UP! PLEASE! I can't. I can't deal with this anymore.." I fell to the floor, and then all went hazy. My head spun, and my body started shaking.

"Fuck you, universe."

her taste was still on my lips when I woke up.
