Hermione was happy living in her new school. The next morning, she wakes up and take a shower early because their first class start at seven o'clock and she didn't want to be late for it. Gryffindor had a same class and that would be History of Magic. They had to scribble down names and dates about the legendary wizards, witches and other events too. One of Hermione's favourite was the legendary of Morgan Le Fay. In fact, she'd lived in her abandoned house in Shrieking Shack. Hermione was grateful she had learned some of the history when she stumbled upon Morgan's journal back in Shrieking Shack and doing some research with Tom and Draco about Morgan. She was inspired by her journal about spells, adventures and some of her secret as a witch. Professor Old Greybeard himself explained Morgan's life as the greatest witch that lived in twelfth century and the history itself mentioned her for being witch and also a fae in Avalon, the kingdom of fairies where its location was hidden by Fidelius Charm to make it unplottable. She and Tom both gained more points because they were the only one who raised their hand to answer all the questions. The trio would always been seen together whenever they go around the castle. "When she has to go back to her own world in Avalon instead of magical world, she simply vanished from the world and never be heard again. There might be some prove that her descendant still alive until these days to continue her line and inherited her magical power as a witch or a fae. But no one ever said anything about her because it would be disaster if wizarding world discover about her descendants", said Professor Old Greybeard with gentle tone but merely a warning for his students. "Professor, can you tell us about Avalon kingdom?" Hermione asked. Professor Greybeard only smiled warmly at her request, but he continued his story about the kingdom. "Avalon was a kingdom of fairyland where fairies or known as fae lived with magic. They're immortal creature but also become witches and wizards for themselves if they leave their kingdom to visit wizarding world. Avalon was ruled by nine sisters as queens. Morgan herself was a chief for her dearest sisters. When she was a child, she was thrust into a guardian name Mithrandir to look after her and guide her how to be a queen of Avalon and mastered her magical powers as a witch. As the years passed, Mithrandir and Morgan were closed to each other like a father to his daughter. He was the first person she would look although she had a good relationship with her sisters and Merlin too. When it was her time to rule the kingdom, she already mastered her powers, brilliant but cunning when she wants everything to be on her way. She created the "The Ash Yggdrasil" known as Tree of Life and places it between magical and non-magical world, the ancestors of witches, wizards, elves and goblins hide the location of the tree for some reasons", he finished the story instantly. Gryffindor and Slytherin were paid full attention to every single word that he said. Apparently, he knows how to capture their attention in the class. He also used an advanced spells to conjure the images in the stories as if they were real in front of their eyes. He then went on and on about goblins and elves' history using the same technique to make them understand what they learnt. Three times a week they went out to the greenhouses behind the castle to study Herbology, with a Scottish teacher, Professor Armstrong Diggory, where they learned on how to take care of all the strange plants and fungi and found out what their functions for. Hermione quickly making a new friend with Augustus Longbottom, a chubby face boy that seems to be loner like himself. But he was quite good at Herbology. When Hermione has no partner in the class, Augustus nervously approached her and asked if she would like to do work together for Herbology. It turned out that they can performed better in that subject. Professor Tryphena Vassy, the charms teacher, was a tall and slender with long dark hair in a single braid. She was gentle and cares about her students and always patience with them. All the students favoured her including some Slytherins too. On the other hand, Transfiguration didn't seem likely to become Tom's favourite subjects. Hermione noticed his mood rather gloomy with his expressionless face but acting coldly towards everyone except for Hermione and Draco every time he entered the class. He may not directly addressed his dislike towards the wizard, but Hermione just knew he never trusted Dumbledore since from the beginning. Tom also knew that Dumbledore didn't like him because he always scrutinising him with his eyes. which is why Tom hated it. Dumbledore had introduced the subject matter, he warned the students to be really bear it in their mind to pay full intention to this subject otherwise it would transform something become irreplaceable, worthless or dangerous. Tom, for his part, had been the only one who succeeded on making his match pointier and somewhat silver, the next person was followed by Hermione to complete the task. Draco only get blue point. He managed to get some respect from his peers just like Tom. Both of them become teacher's pet especially from their Head House, Professor Slughorn. The professor invited them to join the older students in the duelling club because of their talent. This time, DADA lesson wasn't included in Hermione's favourite subjects, she didn't like how the professor Abernathy always stared at her like she was some sort of worm that he could crash under his dragon boots or was it just her imagination that the professor didn't liked her at all. She was always dismissed by him every time she raised her hand to the air and stating that she should give another chance for others to answer the question with a faked smile. Hermione was a little bit jealous about that but shook her head as she scolded herself quietly for acting like a child instead of supporting her friends. On the other hand, Potions lesson took place in the dungeons. It was colder there than up in the main castle, quite spooky enough without pickled animals floating in a glass jar all around the wall. "Potion making", Professor Slughorn began to teach the assembled first year Slytherins and Gryffindors in his classroom. "Is a very complex art and can produce disastrous results if incorrectly practiced". He either missed or ignored the couple of sniggers from those whom these words reminded of something funny. "However, there's no need to fret, I'll teaches you how to do a simple potion, so you'll get used to a proper best practice, handling ingredients, cauldron management and etcetera". Slughorn was clearly a traditionalist, an assessment was confirmed by his continuation. "But before I continued with practical lesson, let's test you a simple question, if I added powdered root of asphodel to an infusion of wormwood, what would it produce?" He asked the students. Hermione's hand had shot into the air with desperate to prove her knowledge. "Well, my dear...Miss?" "Granger, sir" She talked faster. "Go on", Slughorn look like a child that got his candy in Christmas. "Asphodel and wormwood make a sleeping potion so powerful that defined as the Draught of Living Death", she said. "Very good, Miss Granger. Very good, indeed. Five points to Gryffindor", he clapped his hand with enthusiastic. Hermione was blushing by the compliment, but she had her moment to be proud as a teacher's pet in every class just like Tom. She noticed the Slytherins were glaring at her with sinister, but she always ignored it. Some of the Gryffindors disliked her friendship with Tom and Draco. She couldn't understand why it became an issue to everyone else when she had owed them nothing. Minerva too, warned her about making friends with Slytherins because they came from Pureblood background who supported the Dark Lord. She told Hermione how Tom set a fire to a Gryffindor girl a few days ago where he admitted he got accepted to the duelling club with older Slytherin students. It was said to be a rare case for a Gryffindor to be friends with Slytherin. Not since the argument between Salazar and Godric centuries ago. Hermione didn't like the boys to be friends with Dolohov, Avery and Lestrange. Three of them always seen together where they bullied Hufflepuffs. "I heard that you two friends with Dolohov, Avery and Lestrange," Hermione said slowly. She stopped writing her essay to look at them. They always went to the library doing homework or reading the History Achieve if there's any book that might captured their interest. "They didn't have any choices. We're in the same house, same people and they clearly loves to prove the weakest one should be expelled from Hogwarts," Tom said calmly but he still reading about Salazar Slytherin history achievement because being Slytherin himself got him to be curious about his House. "What do you mean?" Hermione asked with suspicious tone. They're good at duelling but they have weaknesses. Dolohov can be rather clumsy sometimes when he distracted during the duelling . It's easy to read his movement and the way he thinks aloud was quite funny. Lestrange and Avery were snobbish about their pure heritage. I don't care about blood or how old are their parents' ancestors. It's a failure that I can't accept in my expectation. They're easy to read like an open book". He shut the book and pick another one to read. He glanced at the title of the book 'Pureblood Heritage of Salazar Slytherin'. Hermione understand of every word he said. She forgot that he could read mind without people noticed it unless he told them. "They always followed us around like a lost little puppy", Draco smirked at Hermione. "What they want from you?" Hermione frowned. "Since we're in the club, they offered us their friendship", Draco said again. "You should be more careful, Hermione. They don't like us as your friend", Tom said with stern voice as it a merely warning for Hermione. "Did they threaten you two?" She bit her lips as she was worrying about Tom and Draco. She hates bullying. Back then in the orphanage, she had felt how to be pushed into the mud when the others laughing and mocking at her misery. They snatched her father's favourite book and torn it from one page and another. Tom would carry her away from the crowd and promised to get a revenge for her. One morning she did hear a screaming from her bully where there were a lot of snakes slithering on the floor where the bully was just got into the bathroom. "I know how to take care of myself. You two have to promise me not to get into trouble for me before you get expelled from the school", Hermione said with stern tone and gives them her sharp look as if she could curse them into a stone like Medusa. "Trust me. When the last time you ever heard Tom and I get caught for something bad since we grew up together?" Draco smirked at Hermione while Tom smiled with sinister. "You're such a pompous Slytherin. If you get caught, then I'll be happy to collect all the pointer to myself and make my life easier", Hermione smiled innocently at them. "There's no way I let you enjoy all the victory to yourself. I'd enjoy seeing you scowling behind the tree while the others did well in flying lesson", Tom smiled at Hermione. "It's not my fault I can't handle a broomstick. That thing barely support my weight and I dare say again, it's dangerous and people can died accidentally", She lifted her chin higher with that kind of bossy attitude. That night, Tom and Draco said goodnight to each other in front of library's door. "Are you sure you don't want us to walk you to the Gryffindor common room?" Draco asked Hermione. "Don't worry. I'll fine by myself", she shook her head and smiled at the boys. "If you need anything, owl us immediately", Tom urged with stern face. "Okay", Hermione hugged both of them and walked away from her. As she began to walk away from the library, she suddenly heard a loud voice behind her.
