December 1996 - Hogwarts

The snow melted away for a heavy rain session on the evening before we all left for the holidays. Harry, Ron, Hermione and I were sitting by the fireplace in the common room, and Harry could tell something was on my mind.

"Are you alright?" he asked me.

"Why wouldn't she be?" Hermione said, interjecting herself. "Are you?"

"I'm fine," I said. I had been working up the courage all day to do what I needed to

do, but the time came to do it and I was stuck to my seat. I knew that Draco walked throught the courtyard to get from his last class to his dorm. I knew exactly where he was in this very moment. "I gotta go," I said as I suddenly got the courage. I went outside where I knew I would run into him and waited in the rain, preparing for my confession.

When I noticed him coming, I took a deep breath, grabbed him by the shoulders and pinned him against the wall in the pouring rain.

"You listen to me Draco Malfoy because I swear to god I mean every single word," I told him. He looked flabbergasted as I let go of him and let it all out. "I have been obsessed with you from the moment I saw you. I'm not hiding that. And I know I've been a bitch and I know that I have caused you so much anxiety. And it's no wonder I can't keep a man because look at me. I'm a mess. But even after all the shit that I did, you still wanted me. And I was stupid enough to say no. But I am still in love with you Draco Malfoy. And I know you don't want me anymore, because I wouldn't want me either. So I am not asking for your forgiveness. But I am telling you that I'm yours. Whether you want me or not. And I'll be here if you ever decide that you do."

And there it was.

I stared at him, waiting for him to say something. Anything. But nothing. He only stared at me expressionless, the rain making his hair heavy enough to cover his face. But I knew I had said all I could say. And there was nothing else I could do. So I started to walk away, but before I could think about my next steps, he grabbed my arm and pulled me in for the most incredible kiss I'd ever had in my entire life. And from there, it was like we'd been together this whole time.

It was weird walking together for the first time in so long. And even though we hadn't had a moment apart since I confessed to him the previous night, he hadn't said a word to me. But we found a private compartment on the train and I cosied up to him.

"Do you want to talk to me now?" I asked him. His arm was around me, but he was staring out in space. "Cause if you don't say something, it's going to be an awkward break."

"What is there to say?" he said.

"Do you want to tell me what's been going on with you?" I asked.

"Not yet," he said.

"Then what do you want to do?" He held me a little tighter.

"Just...just exist.  And talk to you as if nothing crazy is happening. Like fourth year all over again when I could worry about quidditch matches instead of a war."

"We've got a lot of catching up to do," I told him.

"Yeah," he said.

"You forgive me, right?"

"I don't want to," he said. My face dropped at the sound of his honesty. "But I need you. So I need to."

"You love me?" I asked. He took a moment before answering, making me panic that he wasn't going to give me the answer I wanted.

"I do," he said.

The entire winter break was spent at Malfoy Manor. It wasn't like the first time I spent the holidays there. The first time was magical. It was like a honeymoon phase where everything was perfect. But this time, it was real. It's like when you've been together for a while and you're seeing someone for who they really are. When you know someone you care about is going through something terrible but they won't tell you about it. He needed me to be a light in his life of darkness. And although I wanted so badly to know what was bothering him, I wanted even more to just be there for him.
