I followed X through the crowded hallways of the school, nearly tripping over purposely extended legs. At first, it wasn't so bad not being popular in school, but as you get older, you realize the consequences of having a tarnished reputation. For the fourth time, I was knocked down."Wait," I called out to X. She quickly glanced back with an anxious look in her eyes.No matter what she did, she was always attractive. She could make the strangest faces if she wanted to, mess up her perfect hair, smear peanut butter in it, or both, but everyone would still like her. Every girl wanted to be friends with her. Every boy wanted to go on a date with her.I maneuvered my way through the taller-than-me people and rushed towards X. Together, we ran the last stretch to geography, threw open the red door, and stared at a group of first-year students. The little ones stared at us, giggling, as we awkwardly shuffled away and closed the door."Okay... so where are we?" I asked.X pulled her phone out of her pocket and opened Magister."It changed," X groaned, "we're now in S06."The bell rang."Oh, crap," whispered X. We ran from B13 to S06 and pulled open the door. Everyone was sitting quietly and listening. At the front of the class stood a man with a flabby belly and a pink face as if he had just run three marathons. A police cap was perched on his sweaty head, with ginger hair sticking out from under it. I estimated him to be in his mid-thirties."Take your seats quickly," said our geography teacher with a tense expression. We slowly entered the classroom and collapsed onto the first available desk."Let me update you," said the police officer. "We found something in the girls' restroom on the ground floor.""Is that the one that was locked?" X asked."Yes," he replied. "A body was found there."I saw X freeze, and my heart rate doubled."W-who?" I stammered."A second-year student named Emily, with no criminal or alcoholic background and no drug problems. We believe she would have been a hostage. The stab wounds weren't very deep, but deep enough to cause fatal bleeding."Everyone was in shock, even though it was the second time they heard it, and they stared lifelessly at Blubber Belly, who was still talking seriously.Fear and insecurity ran through my entire body. Someone had been murdered. In this school, where I had been walking around for a few years now.But now...I had run past those restrooms earlier, but I didn't sense that someone had been murdered, that there was a corpse."We have examined all possible connections between Emily and Maya, but it remains unclear. As I said, she was likely a hostage, a matter of blind choice."The day progressed slowly, and the lessons seemed twice as long. As time crawled on, I began to think.A murder. Here at school...In this boring, ordinary place, in the middle of nowhere, nothing EVER happened. Just NEVER. And now suddenly two murders in a short time... Something must be going on, something that had been building up for years, something big, and now it was all coming out.Frustration.Hatred.Sadness.But maybe... Wait. Maybe the killer was here at school. Here. At. School. Maybe they were here now. Maybe he or she was a student, like me, older or younger. Maybe I know the murderer. Maybe they're in my class. What if it's X... She has enough reason to stab everyone. Out of frustration... Because of the hatred she has for the killer... Because of her sadness over Maya... NO! I can't think of her like that. She's not a murderer. She's broken, and she doesn't want others to feel that way.Right?A shiver ran down my spine. After almost ten years, the bell finally rang. Students streamed outside. Break time."I'm going to the restroom real quick," I said, "you go ahead.""Okay." X strode through the corridors to the cafeteria to secure a spot.I went the other way, to the most secluded restroom in the school building.I placed my hand on the doorknob but immediately pulled it back when I heard a chilling scream. One second, then the muffled scream was silenced.Dark red blood seeped out from under the door.My heart stopped. I turned pale. My throat was dry.The scream faded away.I stopped breathing.I heard nothing anymore.Suddenly, my heart started pounding hard out of nowhere, blood rushed in my ears. Then I screamed and ran away as fast as I could. Away from the restrooms. Away from the fresh blood. Away from the fresh murder. Away from the fresh, dead body. One thing was certain.
There is a killer at school with weapons to stab or shoot people.
This was the third murder.
