Chapter 35

The tension is still high. The ambiance is not wavering at all, and the two emperors were still raising their swords to defend themselves from one another. Emperor Macsen is literally mad; he has gone insane. Emperor Maximus couldn't think of a way to take his brother's sanity back. Whatever he does, Macsen is being provoked. Macsen knows his story already; isn't he going to take vengeance just as he should?

"Now that you know everything, make your decision. Will you take revenge for your family or—" Maximus said, but he was cut off.

Macsen glared daggers as he replied with a raging voice. "I don't care about that shit. I have to find her. You can't stop me now, Maximus. Not even father. I have made my decision, and I'm going to take her back."

Emperor Maximus' eyes widened in disbelief. He couldn't believe his brother easily took the girl's side just because of his raw emotions. He'll rebuke his own family for a woman who is their actual enemy. Then Macsen is truly out of his mind. For fuck's sake, if he's not mistaken, this also happened to Magnus and Massimo. They were brainwashed, manipulated, and gaslighted by the feeling they thought was love. But in reality, that fucking thing doesn't exist.

"What? Are you out of your mind? The Aastha family is our enemy! You can never be together! She is your mortal enemy, Macsen. She'll be the cause of your fall. If you're not dumb, then you have to realize that she's your ticking bomb. You're so fucking wrapped in her tiny hands!" Maximus almost screamed his lungs out in desperation and anger.

Macsen frustratedly ran his fingers through his hair and said, "Maybe I am! And I will truly lose my sanity if I don't fucking find her sooner, Maximus. I don't know what's happening to me. I'm confused as well. I can't stop thinking about her. I can't even fucking sleep peacefully without knowing her situation. If I don't find her sooner, I'll lose myself. It's like I'm cursed. This is deep; I'm falling into the abyss and only she can save me!"

Maximus wonders how his fucking family ended up like this. It's truly a curse. Were they cursed before? Magnus feels into the pit of the abyss, and he still keeps coming back to it. He can't let his woman go, no matter what she does. Massimo also chased his woman bravely, like he's willing to go to any war just to have her back. And now, Macsen? It's like a fucking curse. It's like the curse has been passed to them. What did they do in their past lives? Oh no... What did his father do to make his family experience this?

If past lives truly exist, they must have done something terrible that made them experience this fucking thing. Love is a curse.

Maximus views love as a sinister and cunning manipulator that seduces people into a heart-wrenching dance that eventually ends in disappointment. Love is a crafty trickster that conjures up illusions and lures gullible people into a maze of emotional suffering, not the noble force that poets extol. A malicious force lurks where disappointment and resentment converge, offering consolation and a sense of camaraderie. Love turns into a challenging journey filled with setbacks and sorrow.

"That's fucking disgusting. Wake up!" Maximus said.

But Macsen is stubborn. "As I've said, my decision is final, and you can't stop me, Maximus. Not even father. I did something stupid; I was the worst. Once I find her, I'll make everything up to her. I'm serious, I fucking want to die. I did despicable things. I don't deserve her forgiveness. Fuck!"

Maximus frowned. For those who have made it through the challenges of tormented love, love unfolds as an illusive illusion—an alluring picture that entices with the promise of joy while concealing the sharp edges of pain. Love simply shatters expectations and promises; it is betrayal. Love is a burden that traps individuals in an intricate web of unmet desires. It is a misfortune that poisons the sources of happiness and replaces them with sour currents of bitterness.

Maximus put his sword down. He doesn't want to fight Macsen anymore. His brother is not in a stable state. He's confused, as he was brainwashed by the fucking thing called love. "Fucking disgusting. So this is what love does to you. Disgusting shit. I'm grateful I'm not like you. And trust me, I'll be the only Vassily who won't fall for that shit."

In his opinion, love is a manipulative force that deceives people into believing false things and can be used to manipulate them into falling prey to the irrational whims of passion. The light of love wanes and reveals the corrupted inner self behind the once-celebrated exterior. Through their shared experience, love emerges as the adversary, standing for heartbreak and directing the destruction of emotions.

"Fuck off, Maximus," Macsen said, withdrawing his sword as well. It's not the time to lose himself. He needs to compose himself. He needs to gather up his courage and emotion and find her to repent for what he did.

Maximus scoffed. "I don't have the ability to fall in love, Macsen. That's why we're different. Love doesn't truly exist. If it does, she'd still be alive right now."

"You don't understand, Maximus, and you will never understand unless you experience this yourself," Macsen said.

Maximus' eyes narrowed. "Love is deceptive, Macsen. It is a fucking grand illusion, a curse that has the power to blind people to the harsh realities of their lives. Right, I remember the fucking paradox of love: a beautiful curse that binds people even when it hurts. Disgusting, isn't it?"

"Fuck off."

For Maximus, love is a curse that appears to be an illusion, a myth that fools whisper. The harshest illusion is a curse people voluntarily pursue in the real world. A curse prevents humans from seeing the harsh realities of life, so love is the great illusion. He refers to it as the most delightful sin that humanity has ever accepted. The delusion people perpetuate about love, the torment that's being bear while seeking fulfillment.

The greatest deception is a curse on credulous hearts in the shadow of reality. The entanglement of emotions can be romanticized through the concept of love. While it's true that love overcomes all obstacles, love actually has the opposite effect, overpowering reason. The most alluring curse ever imagined awaits those who dare to believe in love. In the desperate search for purpose, love is both a beautiful lie and a curse that people voluntarily accept. For Maximus, it's disgusting, and nothing or no one can ever change his mind.
