Chapter 1

The morning is quite tranquil, totally concealing any kind of hint of the impending disaster that is yet to come. The road is filled with merchants from the empire and servers of the emperor, and that includes her working with the men packing the deliveries of goods and liquor that will be brought to the palace. The sweet scent of pastry was the only good thing there, and everything else was irritating.

Everyone's talking, blabbering nonstop gossips about the palace, issues of the empire, and even the life of the emperor. Why can't these people be quiet? For once, at least someone other than her should appreciate the beauty of silence. Sometimes, the quietness that people hate is all they need in life to be happy. But what can she do? She's nothing but a great pretender working for the emperor. A woman in a man's attire working with the men as she's disguised as a man for some reason. And her day started off already.

"Have you heard of Vassily who was abducted?" Said the women gathered in the next stall.

The thin one replied. "What? That was true? I didn't believe it."

"I know, I know it sounds absurd. Who would dare abduct those monsters? But they said there's that one kid amongst them who prefers books rather than swords. Maybe that made him the weakest monster in the palace," the fat lady stated, making everyone gasp. Even her attention was diverted to them.

"You're not sure about that." A tall man suddenly interrupted.

"What do you mean?" The woman asked.

"You say the weakest, right? But have you ever wondered how he survived as a child when he was abducted?" The man said, and everyone fell silent. No one dared to talk because that realization probably hit everybody.

"Yes, gossipers. He probably slaughtered his abductors and survived alone," the man remarked, making everyone feel a tremendous fear coming from the unknown. "You know what's worse? "

"What?"

"I'm not sure about this, but they said no one in the palace looked for him. He just came back by himself, all alone," the man said, and the women gasped in disbelief. "Now that's not what you call weak."

"I was wrong." The fat lady rebuked her statement.

The tall man sighed. "Just because he picked books when he was a child doesn't mean he doesn't know how to punish. Remember, that's their nature. That man is a Vassily, and he will always have the nature of a Vassily."

"And who is this person now?" The thin woman asked curiously. But hey, isn't that obvious already?

The man just smirked. "It was kept a secret. I'm not going to tell you," he said, and then he left.

The women were left dumbfounded. No one ever dared talk about the Vassily child who was abducted again. For a small amount of time, silence filled the crowd. But as the people in the market grew, the noise got louder.

"Raph, are you going to deliver these drinks to the palace?" A woman in her mid-30s asked.

She immediately turned to her and signed her language. "Yes."

That's the owner of the goods they're going to deliver to the palace. She's a servant of the emperor, specifically a disguised delivery boy. No one knows yet that she's a woman. She grew up in the palace; she lived and worked with the men, but no one has ever doubted her identity yet.

The woman tapped her shoulder. "That's my good boy. Be careful always, yeah?"

"I will. Thank you, sis." She nodded and signed.
